This is really, really bad advice. A HA will sort out an affordable repayment plan with any debtor, without charging any interest. CAB and Shelter and Money Adviser at the HA are the right routes to be going down.
The OP had an affordable payment agreement and missed payments.
Now they're going for a suspended possession order as no payment was received.
It's all a bit late to now go back and try and renegotiate small token payments to get up to date when the last agreement was broken.
So I'll stick with my advice of raising the cash any way possible even if that involves paying interest.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

This is true - but you must stick to any repayment plan that is worked out.
You say you have seen their Money Adviser - do they know about your other debts - credit card etc.? They can help with this too. If they don't know about all of it, make another appointment to see them, and take everything with you.
They did not seem that interested in other debt... Just seem to me that they met with me so they could tick that box that they had done all they needed to do before taking me to court0 -

and turns out that the issue was HB payments. Had OP followed your advice they would have cleared the debt with the HA and saddled themselves with a credit card debt paying interest. When HB payments had come through their rent account would have gone into credit, and OP would have been left struggling with credit card repayments. Wrong advice.0 -
The other debts, with maybe the exception of the council tax, are not priority bills. Have you contacted one of the debt charities? They might be able to help you come up with a realistic payment plan to go to the HA with.

Credit card repayments are not priority bills. They can go unpaid. At least the OP will have a roof over their head.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

It sounds like it may have been a rents officer you met with rather than a money adviser. You need some money advice to help you get back on track and help manage your repayments on your various debts. I don't know what area you are in but is there any kind of welfare rights charity locally? Failing that speak to CAB and see if they can help or put you in touch with someone. You say you are now looking for work - ask at the job centre they may be able to advise a charity who can help.0 -
The OP is now receiving professional advice.
They will put together a case for defending the possession order.
This will probably include a plan for OP's debt (DRO or similar), now being in possession of the correct benefits, a history of how this situation arose and any mitigating factors and a future payment plan that can be done through DD or attachment of benefits.
I do not believe that any further advice should be given as this will only confuse the OP.0 -
But people do not realise this and get themselves in a bigger mess as credit card companies shout louder and demand higher repayment plans than social housing providers.
They don't take away the roof that covers your head though.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

That's not the point. You need to pay on time and make it your number 1 priority.
I have been making it my number 1 priority, I live of toast and tea, one maybe two hot showers a week.... No heating through 90% of winter..... Nothing else gets paid so i can cover rent.... There were times when I was so sick and cold .... I did delay paying rent so I could heat my home or spend a fiver and buy some decent food.... So i could fucntion, I am struggling....trying to move forward... Some days its really difficult.
Summer is here so its feels better, no real appetite in summer and won't get cold.... Things were I thought moving in right direction0
