Matched betting is not betting, correct- it's a misleading term really. You can't go wrong if you follow PA's guides to the letter and take a little bit of time to learn it in the 1st place. I was way dubious of it for years, even though there is a whole board about it here on MSE. But this site has enabled me to understand and achieve it. Really, you are only going to make a mistake if you can't read or aren't careful. I suggest you read the guides here on MSE and on PA if you are unsure how or why it works.
I very much understand how it works and have done it. There are many ways to make mistakes - different rules between bookies, taking advantage of a bookie error, even just being tired and making a typo.
You also need a large pot of cash available to begin with, which is why it's not really suitable here.0 -

You really don't need a big bankroll. I just follow the instructions here and started with only £60! http://slummysinglemummy.com/2015/09/09/earn-up-to-1000-tax-free-every-month-with-matched-betting/0 -
If you're laying £50 at 20-1 you need a reasonable balance0

Could the fella not get a p/t job. Easiest way of making money. 20 hours a week @ min wage will give you the £2000 in 14 weeks.0

Yeah, but if you're just starting out - doing the initial sign up offers then you don't. You build your bankroll over a month or so. To begin with £60-£100 is more than enough0

I hate to be a polly prissy here. But Matched Betting isn't allowed on this forum. There is a specific forum for it, for good reason.
Poohbear, why don't you take a look at the Make £10 a day thread in Debt Free wannabe challenge forum. Anyone can join and there are some great ideas there and it's got a great atmosphere.
