TSB banking problems

I bank at TSB, I didn't want to bank at TSB I might add, I banked at Lloyds, one day out of the blue I had a letter saying "welcome to local banking!", only my Lloyds branch was a short walk away, and nearest TSB was 2 towns away....

Yesterday while on away for a few days in Wales - miles from home, I filled up with petrol, debit card didn't work, cash point just spat out the card, had to borrow some money, humiliated.

45 minute phone call to TSB's Scottish call centre reveals that they have blocked my account, and the almost £20k in it.

Reason is that someone paid me £20 by bank transfer, and then decided that the transfer had gone to the wrong account, although TSB also claimed that I had hacked the other account and helped myself to the £20, how, why?

The £20 was a legitimate transfer I might add.

Net result is that I have lost everything, business finished, no money, the end.

TSB woman said that if I could not provide them with what they want to see they would keep all the money.

No time scale for when the money might come back if they do not decide to keep it.

My question is, can a bank just take and keep your money like that?

What is my next step?

I didn't get a letter, a phone call or an email, nothing, no warning.

I would strongly advise anyone who banks at TSB to move their account.

If it's legitimate, why not just provide them with what they want to see?

You have not lost £20.000 at all it is simply being frozen due to what the bank believes is a fraudulent transaction, You now have two choices here either play ball and give them the details as requested or scream and shout about it !

Either way these situations can at times take quite a while to resolve, I know what I would be doing and that is sorting out the details the bank have asked for which would be the most sensible thing to do.

Would you be happy to lose everything in an instant?

Would you be happy to look like an idiot in a petrol station?

Have you ever met anyone who was happy about having £18k stolen?

All I have is an email where someone enquired about something, and on agreeing a price I gave them my bank details.

I always assumed bank transfer was a safe and quick way to get paid.

Again nothing lost or stolen so you are not going to convince me or anyone else that this is the case.

Again I will point out the facts here for you in bold above.

How come I no longer have any money, and TSB say if I don't jump through the correct hoops they will just keep it?

Feels like theft from where I'm sat.

Brooker Dave rather than chucking yourself around and screaming about this why not just comply with the request of the bank and have this resolved, There is nothing whatsoever that anyone on here can advise you to either appease you or have the account unfrozen any quicker.
