No I don't think I did
I have obtained the GenuineTicket.xml file
but am unsure what, exactly I am supposed to do with it !!!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

The OP was attempting an upgrade install and it failed. Genuine Ticket will not help with this.
Since the OP will now attempt a clean install to a new HDD, Genuine Ticket is superfluous as he can simply enter his retail product key.0 -

Oh so you were posting it for the benefit of others, not the OP. How kind.
But you do know that the OP was confused as to what to do with the XML? Why didn't you tell him that he did not need to use that method at all in his case and that you were really posting it for the benefit of others?
I only advise it's use when you don't want to go through the palaver of installing Windows 10 at all, until it suits.
Whereas if you are actually going to the trouble of utilising another hard drive to install it....why jump through the extra hoops?0 -
Finally got round to installing win 10 on another HDD and got error message " hdd locked " how do I unlock it ?0
-
I can "see" the SATA HDD in Windows explorer - and have successfully formatted it - but on booting via either a DVD or USB stick - I am still getting the same error message "HDD LOCKED"
I have run scandisk on the HDD in question - whilst running Win 7 from my "normal" SSD - Which has found NO problems !!
This is now starting to wind me up
1. I want to upgrade my PC to Win 10 temporarily - in order to reserve my copy
2. I have tried and failed to upgrade my normal SSD (as have MS techies who spent over 5 hours logged in to a remote session)
3. I have tried and failed to install on another HDD
I have installed Windows on thousands of PC's over the last 20+ years and never before had a problem like this....
I HATE MICROSOFT0 -
Why don't you just bite the bullet and install Windows 10 as your main OS?
All these people not wanting to bother, yet they upgraded to Windows 7 without any hesitation!
Remember, Windows 10 is the last full operating system from Microsoft. There won't be another "new" operating system for 20/30/50 years (unless they go back on their word, which is hichly unlikely).
It's all about patching and updating the existing software these days. Creating something entirely new is time consuming and a waste of resources. Apple, despite their faults, have been doing this for ages.0
