You won't get a cottage in the lakes just for the weekend, they're mostly minimum one week hire, occasionally some do short breaks (but not usually high season) but usually charge almost the same as a full weeks hire anyway, £60 for lunch 2 days and dinner one night is not enough, unless dinner means a local chippyAug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00

Booked this yesterday, going on 4 July...

Bargain considering what you get, practically door-to-door coach travel, 4 nights half board, and the trips to Leighton Hall, Grange, and Bowness. Love the Strathmore Hotel at Morecambe, right on the prom looking across the Bay to Grange, and the South Lakeland Hills.0 -

-Evening entertainment
Price £169pp, but varies by date. We're going 4 July.0 -

However, depending what car you drive, the Hardnott Pass is definitely not for the faint-hearted. I came across this particular route when, on the way home, I put "shortest route" into the sat nav after visiting my family in Whitehaven.
We have a big car and there were many times when I couldn't see the road at all as the bonnett was high in front of us due to the terrain. Looking out of the side windows there was about 4 inches of tarmac at either side of the tyres.....it was terrifying and I'm far from being a nervous driver.
There were signs which read "not suitable for HGV" but in all honesty, I believe its only really suited to motorbikes, cycles and walkers. We never saw another car while we were there and once en route, there's no chance of turning back.
Have a look on YouTube for videos, but as for me... never again
Hopefully this link works. Lots of fabulous drives in Cumbria, some a bit scary. We're driving up there on Friday, can't wait:D

Grange Over Sands is lovely. Don't be in a hurry whilst you're there - its not exactly a metropolis of high speed adventure.
Higginsons is good place to stop at for a food fix. (think value, rather than cost)

Small world: I drove the Hardknott last Friday, never exceeded 30mph and the most scary drive in Britain; the "Pass of the Cattle" in North West Scotland was "easier".0 -
I think you even don't have to got big budget, Lake District is for everyone.0

I know. Have done the Hest Bank to Grange walk across the Bay several times. Then had a wander, and got the train back to Lancaster.0 -

You've done a lot more than me .
Although I've lost count of how many times I've walked along the prom.
If the weather is kind, you'll have a good break.0
