Thanks. I think the party actually saw me off as I've had not one ounce of energy or motivation since.
I have done nothing and the house is quickly become a !!!!!! tip. I feel like I'm almost back at square one and I so wanted for it to be decluttered by the time I broke up for the summer. I have two weeks to get on top of this so if anyone has any magic kick up the bum elixir then can I have some please.
I'm going to set myself a little target for today and tomorrow to try and kick start me again.
One positive I have kept on top of the washing.:j
Right I think I'm going to vacuum upstairs. How exciting.1 debt v's 100 days chapter 34: T3sco bank CC £250/£525.24 47.59%

Bedroom vacuumed and polished with bits tidied away. Washing put away. The most I've done all week.:o but it's a start.
Going to hang the damp washing now ( it's just been rained on) and clear the glitters from the stairs before vacuuming.
I would also like one bag of rubbish/recycling/donate stuff sorted by bedtime.1 debt v's 100 days chapter 34: T3sco bank CC £250/£525.24 47.59%

I think you are losing sight of how much you have done already, long term clearing and decluttering. What accumulates over a few days or weeks of CBA isn't the 'can't see it any more' clutter of years. That's what I am finding at least, cursing because downstairs was 'just as bad as before' but actually it took me an hour of putting away to get it most of the way back to clear because the long term sort out tat has gone.
I know what I need to do but am really struggling for motivation. All the clever techniques in the world can't fix that, can they? You could set mini-challenges and the rest of us could play along. I used to do the head to head challenges on flylady many years ago, complete with photos and found those really motivating. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I know what you mean redo. It's just so frustrating as it seems like no matter how much work is done the difference seems minimal. Perhaps a challenge would be good but photos would be difficult as I'm a luddite and have no idea how to do it.
Yesterday was better. My bedroom was tidied, DS's bedroom was done a little and washing was sorted.
I NEED to carry on today. This morning DS's birthday presents have been taken up stairs to his room. I would like to finish clearing the stairs and start on the sewing room AGAIN.
One of my major issues is to much looking back to the past and destroying the present and future. I used to laugh when folks mentioned having mid life crisis but my goodness it's been horrendous. Every day at the moment is a fight. Probably why I havent been on here much as i dont want it to be a misery guts diary.
Need to start finding my positives again.1 debt v's 100 days chapter 34: T3sco bank CC £250/£525.24 47.59%

Better to get the miserable bits out in your diary (even if well disguised) than to bottle them up. Maybe writing them down would help you see the positives that balance them.
Redo is right - the surface layer of new cr*p that gets you down so much is not the same as the longer term stuff that you've dealt with. I've got some big furniture moving coming up (swapping a bed with my mum, as well as adding a CoD from hers and giving my brother the big wardrobe) so need to do some sorting out in advance of that. The kids' room has been full of boxes since October when the builders started on downstairs, but the bed moves mean that it needs clearing out as all the beds will be moving round at the end of the month. I'm hoping the move round plus putting up a coat rack in the utility room and a shelf in the kitchen will help.
Mind you... maybe I should just call the builders and get them to come and do the utility room sometime.0 -
I agree that talking your problems over in your diary can be good as it can help you get perspective and other posters can be very good at comforting and motivating I find
.
I also agree that with de-cluttering you need to look at the bigger/long term picture.
The surface stuff lying around is being used and is therefore NOT clutter, it just needs tidying away. To make tidying easier you need good storage and you need to store things as close to where you use them as possible. Also try to put something back in it's proper place as soon as you've finished with it, to stop mess becoming overwhelming.
To my mind clutter is the stuff you DON'T use, and that is often hidden away in cupboards, drawers, sheds, or worst culprit of all the loft. Getting rid of this stuff is particularly satisfying and frees up storage for the stuff you do use.

Thanks greenbee and hairy hand (I don't think that your name will never bring a smile to my face). I understand what you say about getting down the miserable bits but this is my refuge from that. I need it to be a place of positivity for me.
I've been pottring away this morning which has led to me looking for something. I think I've found my new motivation. I seem to have lost last years school photo and a set of very nice pens which mum gave me some years ago. They could be anywhere.I'm only going to find them if I continue to declutter.
I did find a set of nice knives brought as a wedding present 9 years ago. There is no point in them sitting in the cupboard in the bedroom is there. I will get rid of the old ones and set them to use.
The one thing I'm struggling with is self image and fitness, or lack of.:o I have two weeks left at work then six weeks off. It would be nice to walk back in at the start of the new term and to be slimmer and fitter. I'm going to aim for a one stone loss and get my wardrobe sorted. Clear skin would be a bonus too. I always said I would go from spots to wrinkles with no break.
Anyway off I go again. More sorting. Have a fab Sunday.1 debt v's 100 days chapter 34: T3sco bank CC £250/£525.24 47.59%

Thanks hairyhand and abba. Treasures still not found but ive been too unindated with sewing to look.
I can't wait for payday as I will be able to pay off another card :j, and maybe if I try very hard two cards with half of a third which will leave me with one debt.
I have some free time at work now so I'm working on a budget as we speak.
I don't think I've ever been so motivated in all my years at MSE. The D@ve Ramsey pay the smallest to largest debt irrelevant of interest rate is definitely working for me.:j
Roll on Friday. I break up and will not only be saving on gas and electric because of the weather but also diesel costs.:j :money: Where else can I cut costs?
I hope you are all having a fab week so far.:T:):D1 debt v's 100 days chapter 34: T3sco bank CC £250/£525.24 47.59%
