Wow, what a question. What do they want? Mid range how, compared to what? Smart? LCD? Plasma? 4K? The list could literally go on and on....

It would be far better to say 'I would like this' and 'I've got that to spend.' Then compare all the TVs that can do that in the price range desired.

More or less my thoughts when i was asked .
Problem is i have no starting point bar the sub £400 .
Its usual story neighbour buys new telly other neighbour sees it and asks my advice .

Personally I would start from the point of view: you want a telly, what do you want to plug into it? What connections (HDMI, SCART etc) do they need and how many to feed everything you plug into it? If you have Sky, you need HDMI for that + DVD/Blu-Ray player needs a HDMI port. Video players may need SCART or coaxial cable. No point buying a TV with only two HDMI ports on it if you need to connect Sky, Blu-Ray and a Console for example.

Bearing in mind the basic principle of a TV is you sit and stare at it, most modern TVs are pretty much all the same, lower prices, bigger screens, more bells and whistles... a Smart TV may be nice but if you ain't gonna use it as a Smart TV you may as well just buy a "dumb" TV that does the same basic job - showing a picture on a screen.

First thing Richer Sounds will ask, as should you, will be 'what size?'!

You don't really need that, as they always have time for you; post sales, too.

A one on one VIP appointment for a sub £400 gogglebox ?! What is the world coming to
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

I always use Richer sounds if I can after a problem with an AV receiver(not their fault) after a couple of attempts they said they would replace it with another brand, the one I chose was £45 more, the manager said I didn't need to pay the difference. I was so impressed I wrote to HO in praise of the staff and manager, I got a personal reply from Julian Richer thanking me for the positive feedback, telling me he would arrange a reward for the branch.
    What a nice guy!

I'm sure the salesman will not be pleased, especially if it's "out of hours"

£400 is not "mid range", it's budget.
