So a year on PSL. How is it going? What's changed?

The loan has only 5(?) more instalments. You've certainly showed excellent staying power. And determination in that your bonus went on debt. (But then there was the furniture, ahem)!
Has the debt gone down compared to last year? (I ask only because you bought furniture and have more ccs).
The not drinking for a month was impressive and must have saved calories as well as money!
I think you're spending the same amount on hair/eyebrows/leg waxes etc but perhaps a little less on clothes? Well done on sending some back.
But I was astounded at the idea of you finding only buying one pair of shoes a MONTH impossible. I can't imagine buying even one pair EVERY month possible! Do you ever get them repaired or do you see them as throw away items? Mind you I'd love to find some shoes that are stylish AND fit so perhaps I'm jealous. You must have a lot of storage though!
Anyway I hope a year on you're seeing the way ahead getting clearer. You're investing in your future with the exams you're studying for and as others have pointed out buying your flat. Everyone would like more money but it's a matter of making the most of what's available so if it's spent on shoes it can't be spent again on a night out or towards Xmas or a holiday.
I do wonder if you've done a budget so you can see what's availabe for discretionary spending once all bills including quarterly, annual and one offs such as saving for replacement white goods etc has been taken into account. Without this it's likely that overspending is almost impossible to prevent and that debt will continue to creep up.
As ever I'm rooting for your success in your debt busting, exams and life in general.

You're doing so well and I know it's so hard sometimes. Buying load of clothes doesn't bother me anymore and although I still like to look stylish and smart I make do with what I have. For me I'm frustrated I can't fix my fence that blew down and is now propped up with wood and I cant afford to replace my eldest sons carpet in his bedroom.

And I know you don't like YNAB but it has a brilliant Reports feature on it, it shows how your debt goes down, so my Net Worth has increased by 7.5% since November - my TOTAL debt (mortgage/car loan) has gone from £106K to £98k - to me that's amazing!

It's June - we're almost half way through 2017, that loan will be gone before you know it!

Thank you everybody. I'm not down really. I am just bored and work is tiring. Urgh what a moany lady!

Probably in a similar position to last year but loan going very soon and have everything (bar loan) at 0%.

I have rejigged things and got accepted for 0% which is great but only ever at very low limits which is a bit annoying.

Round numbers work for me and staying at home.
I haven't done all that well on the alcohol just been cutting down and this month is more tricky.
Wish I could say that it is all easy and getting better but it isn't really. I don't have that many clothes and everything gets worn out.
Studying is not going well but will be working hard this weekend (but night out Friday).
I will retry YNAB once loan is gone. I have sort of done a budget but it is hard to stick to. Working in London brings a lot of social expectations to your door And us single people get pressured the most.

The flat has increased quite a lot in value which is a bit surprising. It's just numbers tho because I'm not moving.

Verbatim I did actually think of you when I was doing my shopping! filling the cupboards up but making good choices.

I am trying hard in June but it is the hardest month beyond Christmas.

Thank you for all the help, support, kindness, advice and patience. Sometimes I read my posts back and tell myself to be nicer. It will get easier just not yet. So just need to keep going. xx

  • Lots of social happening. It's all a bit much. Trying to calm it down but not easy.
Yesterday was just lovely tho. One of my favourite nights out for a long time.
Lots going on next week. Will try for minimal alcohol.
Trying not to spend lots of money today but haven't seen best friend in ages and it is so sunny...
A lady on come dine with me is making home made hummus. I didn't know that was possible but I am going to try that.

Going to do some study and house work. At least those are free.
Just feel like sitting on the sofa tho- It was a long week. But at least that's free too.
So kind of on track right now with a bit too much social coming down the line. Will see how the month goes. 3 weeks till payday- then loan will be just over £600. End in sight.

PSL, just catching up. You are doing so well. Even cutting down alcohol is a great achievement. Your loan will soon be gone and I know it should be snowballed but maybe for the first month, it could be used as treat money, a month to enjoy yourself and recharge. Good luck with the studying, hope it goes well.
LBM in April 17 - Starting card debt £33554
    Mortgage@1 June 18 - £76350
    Total debt @june 18 £102311
    Debt Jan 25 £8282
Mortgage £51215. Total debt now £59497
  • Thank you everyone. The loan money won't go on debts when it's finished. I am going to do minimal for a bit and probably all of 2018. But going to try and live a bit more really.
The studying is going better than I expected but the pace is quite quick so can't relax really.
Hopefully will mean more money but maybe not immediately.

It's a quiet weekend. But going to the pub Friday. To be honest I would like it to be the weekend already.
Trying hard not to drink today and tommorow. But restraint does not come easily. Just got to be patient.

  • You know yourself if you need to reign the debt busting for a while.

As long as you keep a little bit of focus on it, paying off what you can & of course coming on here & chatting to us!

  • Thank you Dolly. I feel like I don't have a lot of interesting things to note. But slowly things are improving and maybe eventually it won't be so painful.

I did spend a bit on oxford street last week. but was also quite restrained and I did spend a bit on some face creams and toner but usually would have been far more and (although maybe not a need) both were on the list.

Got a few bits for summer which is good. All my summer clothes are tired and I want to say the washing machine is shrinking them.
i do need some clothes for life and work. And work shoes are quite worn out too.

Might try to stay at home for a bit today. But do need food shop and some other bits.
Going to make a plan for the 2 weeks to payday.
