One in three or four parents at the school gate are male ?

I'm beyond those days now but at my son's school out of a class of thirty kids it was one or two (both Dads were actors so would do the school run when resting) . Passing our local primary school recently it certainly seems to be almost exclusively female still.

I live very close to an infant school, 2 junior schools and a senior school. I see a lot of them walking to and from school and when I, rarely, walk my dog during the times children are being taken or collected, I see more. We also have a problem with so many parents parking along our road, on the yellow lines and blocking drives etc. By far the majority are women. I would say 8 or even 9 out of 10 are women

I suspect there's a big difference by area of the country.

I think there is a difference between the morning drop-off and the afternoon collection. I would say that far more men do the morning run than the afternoon run because it can easily be done on the way to work - but also a significant proportion of people doing the afternoon school run are either childminders or grandparents.

For the posters putting their income into benefit calculators and finding no entitlement ... are you remembering to deduct £100 week from SMP. £3900 is ignored as income over the maternity period. If it is maternity allowance, it is all ignored.
