Forget that it's an R32 so it will cost a lot to run (teens to low 20s on the MPG is a regular although when i borrowed it, the first time i drove it i hit 29MPG), the road tax being over £500 so on & so forth
It's constantly had problems & when one is fixed, another arises. Another fairly big problem went wrong with it last night. He's going to get it fixed up but the point is every time something is fixed, something else goes wrong & it's all been costly.
So he just wants to get it fixed & then sell it on & get rid of the headache.
Sounds like he has bought a clocked turd.
Time to get out of it even if it means selling to WBAC.
You can't run an R32 on buttons unfortunately.
They weren't overly reliable when the Met Police had them either.0 -
R32
No service history
Based on similar cars for sale of similar age/miles with service history and in better condition going for around £6.5k. I would suggest putting it on at £5.5k to take £5k if your not going to get any of the little problems fixed.
Its an enthusiasts car, going to find it hard to sell one that looks like it hansnt been looked after.0 -

Given there isnt any service history I hope the owner doesnt find this surprising.0 -
r32 is a specialist car, you're much better off advertising on the vw/golf forums to fetch a good price.0

But he'll know it's been sorted and that he has a good car after the work has been done.
What's the point in part exing and getting another car, similar price bracket and having to do the same repairs again?0 -
WBAC offering £5,100
I've heard that when you get there though they walk around the car pointing out every single ding & before you know it that £5,100 turns into £5.10.
True or not?0 -

But constantly issue after issue after issue? Expensive ones?
That aside, we can get on to £500 road tax & so on. He was in a different well paid job when he bought the car. Earning £500-£600 per week. Now he's not touching that.0 -

True from all the reports I've read. I presume you've stated no service history? From your description of a few dings, I suspect they'll probably end up knocking £1k off the price as they'll find many more than you've noticed. Just a guess though.
I'd agree with advertising it to enthusiasts, on VW forums or Pistonheads. Many people like buying a 'project car' that needs a bit of work as long as they get it for a decent price. Be honest about condition and ask about £5k.0 -
'WBAC offering £5,100'
If they actually pay that for it once they see it, I'll be amazed!0
