I can go on AutoTrader & see what these things would sell privately or at a garage.
But if you go to a garage & want to put this against another car, probably of equal value i would say. Maybe a tad more or a tad less, then what sort of figure are we talking? I'm not expecting much.
Car is an 06 plate R32 in black.
Has done about 95k miles
Not really any service history
Condition is average (aerial missing. Few dints, spot of rust. Basically it's not pristine but there is worse out there)
Just had a new gearbox fitted
Was bought last year on 85k for £7.8k.
Wont be looking to put it against a £20k car for example. Will be looking at cars valuing £4k-£7k i'd say.

A garage is highly unlikely to PX for no (or little) monetary value coming in too. You'd be much better served selling privately (or to WBAC) and then going in as a cash buyer. (Even better, as a finance buyer so you get better discounts, then cancel the finance within the cooling off period and use the cash to pay it off).0

As a private sale, it's probably worth around £5,000 - £6,000. I'd be surprised if a dealer would offer more than £4,000, especially against a car of similar value - most dealers wouldn't want it as it would be difficult to resell without spending some money, and it's a gamble for them to give a warranty on a car which has, on the face of it, been poorly maintained, if at all.
Plenty of fans of the R32 about - put it on Ebay with an honest description for £6,500 and see what offers you get.0 -
Wow, £5k-£6k? That's a big loss in 12 months. I thought these things were supposed to hold their value? Little has changed to it since it was bought for £7.8k.
What is WBAC out of curiosity?0 -

WBAC - We Buy Any Car. Don't even think about it, they'll pay !!!!!! all for it!
The R32 will hold it's value if well maintained & in good condition: There are some fastidious owners about, a friend of mine has a 2006 model that looks absolutely like new, he doesn't even take it out in the rain & is VERY fussy about where he parks it. Always has work done at VW dealers, he spends a fortune on it, but it should be worth top money if & when he sells it. History is a big thing to a lot of people, especially with a performance car, and once you don't have it, you can't replace it. A buyer will also see things like the missing aerial & dings as a sign of a less than conscientious owner. If you don't look after the cosmetics, have you looked after the rest of the car?0 -
Oh dear. If i knew WBAC was a reference to those guys i would've said earlier - the car may as well be driven into a brick wall for what they'll pay for it.
This car isn't mine. The owner rushed in to the purchase since he "must buy a car this weekend". Tried talking him out of it but oh well, "must buy car this weekend". Could've got much better for his money if he'd have taken time but "must buy car this weekend".
Young & foolish. You know the routine0 -

Especially selling it after it's just had a gearbox rebuild. Why not keep it, build up a recent service history then sell it for probably more.0 -
If hes trading in against a car of similar retail value then hes really looking at £2-3000 to change.
Thats a typical dealer markup at that price point.
Several things
They really need a service history to hold their money
They need to be mint
Dealers wont want it
He'd be safer tidying up what can be done cheaply and sticking on autotrader / gumtree.0 -

Forget that it's an R32 so it will cost a lot to run (teens to low 20s on the MPG is a regular although when i borrowed it, the first time i drove it i hit 29MPG), the road tax being over £500 so on & so forth
It's constantly had problems & when one is fixed, another arises. Another fairly big problem went wrong with it last night. He's going to get it fixed up but the point is every time something is fixed, something else goes wrong & it's all been costly.
So he just wants to get it fixed & then sell it on & get rid of the headache.0 -

No WBAC will pay trade price for it.
The R32 is quite rare.
But £7.8k for an 06 plate with little to no history!
I think you will struggle to do anything other than lose a fortune
As said the value is in the condition with rare cars, who wants a leggy one with dents etc and little to no history.0
