In which case go Room Only (or B&B) as that's usually cheaper (and with a wider choice of hotels) than self catering as you aren't paying for the kitchen that you don't use.0 -

Would love to hear how you get on, I am sure you will be fine and wonder what all the fuss was about, it's only a couple of days for the first time.......0

Just a thought OP, have you considered staying in Malaga city for the extra few days as opposed to a beach resort?
Malaga is such a wonderful place, I really love it. Many just turn right or left out of the airport and never see it!
It has fabulous shopping on Calle Larios and the markets beyond. Fabulous architecture, a super Cathedral, the Picasso museum, and much much more within the city itself. Lots of great tapas restaurants, and no will even look at you on your own. I usually take a seat outside and watch the world go by!
Malaga city Port area has recently had a major revamp too. Magnificent walkway all along the portside and out to the beach area. Yes there is a fabulous beach in the city too! plenty of beach bars and sunbeds/umbrellas, and just a short stroll back to your hotel.
I'm just throwing it out, as being in a city on your own can often be far more interesting than being in a resort.
Hope you have a great time anyway, whatever you decide.0 -
I suggest popping over to lonely planet and going on the forum and asking the same question. They also have a whole board dedicated to meeting companions if you fancied company next time.
There will be lots of women on there that have solo travelled all over the world that will have tidbits of advice :-)Save £12k in 2017 / Dec 2017 Travel Cash = £12,400 / £14,000 88.5%[/COLOR]

There's plenty of really good advice, thanks everyone. I'll be away for five nights all together, its just that for three nights i'm doing an activity where I'll be with a group and then I'm adding two nights somewhere else to make the most of my time away.
Doshwaster-do you have any recommendations of places/areas to stay. I looked at Fuengirola and yes it doesn't look pretty.
Melanzana- Malaga is a good idea too but I like being by the sea so that's why I haven't considered it.0 -

I like the Las Rampas hotel. The rooms are fairly basic but it's spotless and you couldn't be more central if you tried.0 -

Hi there, Malaga IS by the sea, read my post again!
It has a lovely beach area with all the trimmings just a few minutes walk from the city through the new port area.
Best of ALL worlds IMO for a short break.
Think again maybe!
And it's only a short train ride back to the airport too. :rotfl:0 -

Most people don't want to eat out 2 or 3 times a day. In addition, in s/c accommodation you usually have somewhere to sit in the evening if you don't want to go out - it's pretty dismal doing that in a hotel room.0 -
Melanzana-I just thought that since it was a city, the by the sea part would be more of an ugly port type place
