Missing dipstick hole!
This is for a friend (no, really, I have a Fiesta
).
She has a petrol BMW and decided recently to check the oil level. When she did she found that the dipstick was missing, presumably not replaced at the last service, so she found and bought a replacement online. Now is the real problem, she's unable to find the hole for the dipstick to go into. I've suggested that she ask on a BMW Forum or find a Haynes manual and work out the location from exploded engine drawings/photos, but I wondered if anyone on here had any thoughts on where else she could go to investigate?
Disclaimer: I have no idea what engine it is, and I'm unlikely to be finding out.

Some BMWs have an electronic oil level sensing system therefore no dipstick therefore no dipstick hole.0

Age wise will depend on exact location but should be on the right hand side of the engine nearer to the front.

No she couldn't find the dipstick now can't find the hole where it goes. Perhaps there never was one and she never noticed before.0 -

Give us a bit more of a clue. What model, what age, what engine?
What does the handbook say?0 -
Whilst some BMW engines do not have a dipstick bar the driver at times the OP makes it very clear that the dipstick was missing therefore leading most people to believe that they would have checked if one was in it to start with, Also slightly different engine sizes would be different size dipsticks therefore would have required the OP's friend to check prior to buying one.0
