If people can afford to drop money on something they enjoy, let them.
Money saving is not buying cheap things.
Money saving is buying the best thing for the best price. The primary function of a watch is to tell the time. My watch is a lot more accurate at £80 than the TAG watch for £2000. My watch also never needs a battery change, sets the time automatically, is waterproof and shockproof. So really it's crazy to spend so much on something so inferior to an £80 watch.0 -
What is all this jealousy about?
The OP asked a perfectly reasonable question looking for advice and most of the responses are based on criticising how much a watch costs ........ Quite honestly some of the respondents should be embarrassed over their posts ..... Come on guys you are better than what has been posted on this thread.IITYYHTBMAD0 -
But nobody has been able to justify why anyone should spend £2000 on a watch that is less accurate and less durable than my £80 one!.
I'm not saying this from a pure cost point of view, I'm saying this purely from a value for money perspective. I would be genuinely interested in what thought pattern someone went through to make them decide that buying a £2000 inferior watch was the best choice.
Hello! There is NO justification needed.
Get over it. If you can't afford it, it's not an issue. 2K is not a lot for a timepiece. It's a piece of jewellery.
Incidentally, what YOU value something at, isn't the same as the next person. You just don't seem to get that.
2K is small change for some, it's not a big amount for a watch.0 -

Moneysaving is about getting best value.
You have already said you don't find it value for money.
Money does have a value and clearly the value of it is higher for you than for the OP.0 -

It makes no difference of how much money someone has £2000 for that watch is not justifiable. If you can't justify the purchase then it's a waste of money.
So to you why is the TAG watch worth £2000?. Why would you choose this watch that is less accurate than an £80 watch?.
That's what I'm asking why do people value these watches so much?. Everyone seems quick to say I'm wrong but yet nobody has even tried to explain their value.
If you went into a shop and they had two watches identical in every way, both exactly the same. But one was £100 and one was £2000. Nobody in their right mind would buy the £2000.
But yet here we have a case of two watches one for £80 and one for £2000 in a shop. The £2000 is not as good as the £80 for its primary purpose of telling the time. Yet people still buy the £2000 one. All I am asking is why?. I'm genuinely interested in the reply.0 -

This is nothing to do with what value anyone places on money. This is simply two watches one is cheaper and more accurate and one is more expensive and less accurate.
Yet people are telling me the more expensive and less accurate one is the best value to them.
So just answer one question....
Why?0 -

I think it's perfectly reasonable to discuss the motives behind spending £2000 on a watch on a moneysaving site. I'm actually interested in the answer.
But I really can't see anyone being jelous of wasting so much money on a watch!0 -
My money saving tip for buying a reasonably expensive watch .
I have owned three Tags and the last one I bought was an Automatic chronograph to save me having to send it off so often for battery changes .
Although I probably won't buy another watch as I really think that with mobile phones having so many features wearing something on my wrist to just tell me the time is pointless .0 -

Ask the nearest female why they want so much spent on their engagement ring when you can buya perfectly good ring for £5 from Argos. I even hear some people waste £80 on a watch when my £9.99 watch is better and keeps better time .... ... I wonder what their motive for wasting so much was.IITYYHTBMAD0 -

It really is, especially on a "praise, vent and warnings" forum.
I'd bring up the fact that £1920 (£2,000 - your £80 watch) could pay towards saving/extending someone's life, but the forum members on here seem quite apposed to such a suggestion.
And in fairness nobody would *really* expect someone to donate £1920 to charity if they bought an £80 watch, but I'm just highlighting how absurdly frivolous some people are; especially, as you've pointed out, you can get a (potentially) better watch for a fraction of the price.
It was probably bought to either try and look flash or (hopefully) as a present like a wedding/anniversary etc.0
