I too have four wheeled Antler luggage for the hold. When your luggage is often 32kgs, it really makes a difference. For hand luggage I use Sub Zero G as they are lighter and therefore better as hand luggage.
The OP usually flies Ryanair which has a 15 or 20 kg hold limit.

    I loathe wheeled cases.

This is partly because I live close to a railway station and there's a footpath alongside my place. Waking to birdsong is a lovely way to start the day. Waking to the rumble of someone rushing to get the 04:57 is a somewhat less gentle way to awaken from slumber.

My main gripe, though, is the 'drag behind' cases. These things are lethal in crowds. I've nearly come a cropper many times and have fallen once.

Well, that's got that off my chest.
I wouldn't be able to carry my 15 or 20 kg suitcase from the taxi through to Departures - and I suspect a lot of other people wouldn't either.

FWIW, I have Tripp suitcases, bought online from Debenhams, something similar to this - it's the medium one. Currently £39 instead of £140

It's been fine for a 3 or 4 week summer holiday.

    It weighs 3.5 kgs.

Tripp change the pattern of these cases on a regular basis.
I've only ever seen one in the same pattern as mine and that was cabin baggage not hold.

I get that people like them and they're not going away but these things can be handy at airports:

A lot of airports charge now - I'd rather save my £1. :D

And I haven't seen any trollies around any of the accommodation I've stayed in.
That's no problem if you have a porter to carry your case but if you're self catering, you're on your own.

So I'll keep my wheels - regardless of how much you dislike them.

Fair enough. Sleep is overrated anyway.

    I'm not unsympathetic.

When it's changover day at the hotel, it is pretty noisy as people trundle past to get to reception - especially in the middle of the night when there's no other noise..

What has that to do with the price of fish at the market?

20kgs may be as heavy to the OP as 32kgs is to me....

IT Worlds Lightest Luggage is the way to go. The largest one weights just over 2kg and holds a lot. We've had ours for 8 years and taken them on many roadtrips. This type of travel tends to be harder on luggage as you're yanking it in and out of the car each day. Ours are still going strong and have only suffered a couple of breakages to the frame which are easily repaired with some fibre glass curtain rod.

We have a Samsonite and a Tripp duffle type case. Both have done excellent service.

Last year I bought a Kipling spinner from Amazon. It is exceptionally light and I can practically push it along on its 4 wheels with one finger.

Not cheap admittedly but excellent quality.

I have been over to Debenhams and TKMaxx this afternoon. I literally airport tested one suitcase when trying to get another o ne from the tall display in TKMaxx. I didn't notice the bright yellow hard case rolling sedately off into the 8 foot drop to the floor - I can confirm it survived the experience (although I cringed when it hit the floor). Debenhams had only a few, but I found a case I really liked, and they had another in stock. Brilliant! Many thanks to all who helped me out, roll on holidays now. Fred :j:j:j

It has nothing at all to do with the price of fish at the market.

But it does have to do with weight.

If you've got a hold luggage limit of 15 or 20kgs it's sensible to consider the weight of the suitcase when it's empty.
Not so important when your regular hold luggage limit is 32kgs.

I'll have a nice piece of halibut, thanks. :p
