British gas lowered their boiler installation costs in may this year, the quoted price for their boilers is now the same price if not cheaper than most web prices. Like for like swaps are now in the £1700 range plus the cost of a powerflush if reqd.
conventional to combi swaps are around £2500 plus a powerflush.0 -
That's a grand less than what I was quoted by BG for the same job in a very similar-sounding property this morning0
-
I've just had a quote for rehaul of GCH in outer London area by an independent - £2900
This includes £1700 new vaillant combi boiler, replacing 15mm pipes with 22, 8 new rads with valves and removal of old system.
They said labour would be £750.
Thought this sounded reasonable... they dont look to be cowboys and office is directly opposite the house in question so hope they wouldn't compeltely botch it and run away...!0 -
This thread among others astounds me. Plumbers and every other service we need, no matter who they are, are in business to earn a living. People, please wake up to the fact that they are not there to save you money or provide a social service.
What's this obsession with what people quoting buy at? As someone who supplies and installs bathrooms, I have to spend time keeping abreast of everything that goes on, making sure I get good services so I can service my customers and then warrant everything I supply.
This means I buy at the best price I can and the sell at close to retail. By making a PROFIT (that will set the blood pressure alarms screaming) I can then support what I do responsibly.
Do the people who witter on about how cheap they can buy something online realise that few trades people buy that way? We cannot afford to! By that I mean if I buy online I get ZERO support - and the witterers would be the first in line to complain about how disgusting it is that a problem was taking time to resolve...
When bought (albeit more expensively) from a local merchant that additional cost pays for local influenece and the real time support required to dig customers out of the brown stuff when the inevitable happens.
Whilst there are indeed some complete plonkers out there, and I do not agree with profiteering at people's expense, don't tar every service with your broad (they're all sh1te) brush as it is both insulting and simply incorrect. Sorry I know I shouldn't have introduced reality into this!
If 50+ years of life experience is anythng to go by it would not surprise me if those same witterers are among those who go to work each day and conveniently forget those same morals as it no longer suits them. Don't forget to look in the mirror people... :A:whistle: All together now, "Always look on the bright side of life..." :whistle:0 -
Ok Guys the quotes are £2800 and £2400, going to ring and order the cheaper quote later today although they(two people) are charging £1200 for 2 days work which I thought was a little pricey, what you reckon?
Hi Jim are you located in london? if so, does that price include any radiators?0 -
In my experience they typically charge double, don't do a very good installation job (e.g. long almost horizontal condensate drainpipe guaranteed to freeze up and stop the boiler working in a cold snap - when you need it most), and are not interested in sorting out their own installation issues unless they can take more money off you.0
-
Thanks to British Gas I'm now lodging in a house where the temperature is down to 1.5ºC after 3 days without heat or hot water. It's another 3 days to Christmas and no prospect of anything changing until the freeze ends. So what is the point in having such useless central heating? All British Gas want to do is charge money to send someone out to quote more money to sort out their own incompetent installation, unbelievable.0

Try defrosting the condensate and see if you have any luck.0

Utterly impossible the way British Gas installed it.0
