British Gas Central Heating Quotation - £3700

I still cannot see how that is going to help you.
Some, like me, will charge trade plus mark up for the boiler and parts, then look expensive on the labour content.
Others will quote retail on the boiler and parts, then make out they are not charging much labour.
If you include a third option, from the likes of BG, then they will over inflate everything, then offer a miraculous £400 off if you sign on the dotted line.
So you can see the reasoning behind my reply to you, the only thing that matters is the final quote/price you pay.
Obviuosly what you are looking for is someone who charges trade then charges little labour as well. This scenario will either end up as a pipe dream, or you getting a cowboy I'm afraid.0 -
I was quoted 3400 for taking old back boiler out, installing new combi boiler and electric fire and also having new radiator valves out on all 8 radiators in the house last november. i also thought that paying thr 'extra' for a good installation by a world renowned supplier would be ok. how wrong I was!! I have had the boiler installed eight months and it has broken down or leaked 9 times!! I was told that remedial works would be carried out i.e. hole in wall bricked and plastered etc. had to argue to get them to brick the wall up. had to pay for own plasterer to make wall good again. questioned why i was paying a charge each month for a gas fire service when they had installed an electric fire - was told that that must have been overlooked and they would 'look at' refunding my previous payments!! not overly confident or happy with the service etc i have received so far. still waiting for a reply to my official letter of complaint......0

I totally understand what you are saying, and you may well be right, but I am just ultra-cautious...
My late father was a builder and, when I was a wee schoolboy, I used to take care of his books, correspondence etc. It was always his policy, and therefore mine, that customers would be told exactly how much each item or category cost, so they could see how much he charged for each item (a long time ago when labour was £70+VAT per day)
It's just me0 -
I have just had a quote for 7 rads a new combi boiler and removal of old system 6k total Vat Included
I dont think thats at all bad when all said and done it's a shed load of work!!
What do you think?0 -
Jim25 - extortionate
Kevy1 - not too bad, especially if you are in the London area0 -
i had three quotes for boiler swap and a bit of pipe work ( i got the floors up and i ran all cable and did controls) also new flue and boiler in slight different location ( i did flue hole and made good) all three quotes about £1500 (worscester greenstar 18i) so the £3700 for a complete system seems ok i thought
also two neighbours had quotes last year for new boilers straight swap and BG were cheaper in both cases so i was surprised there as i would think them to be more expensive0 -

Compliance certificate in the post soon.Did your installer complete the Benchmark log book (installation and service record)? Baxi won't be happy if the installation doesn't meet requirements i.e. invalidates warranty. I've had 2 or 3 of mine done for £200 each, log book completed and building regs complaint. It was in the summer when things were a bit quieter and OH helped out with the legwork, but it can be done.Target of wind & watertight by Sept 2011

Good for you in the northwest. I do find it a bit odd that you are quoting a post I made almost 3 years ago....btw, my comments in October 2007 still stand.:D

1 man = £300 + VAT per day.
Seems spot on to me.0
