Can a Joint Loan be taken in my name?
Options
Dear All,
I have always been under the belief that a joint loan could not be taken in my name without me co-signing however an ex partner has advised that I have a joint loan with them.
I am unsure if this is legally plausible and have not signed any loan forms. Please could someone advise how I would stand legally?
Many thanks

Of course not. Otherwise I could take a joint loan out with you (as long as your name was MrChips anyway)
This isn't to say that your ex didn't take out a joint loan and fake your signature.
If you are absolutely sure you didn't ever sign anything along the lines of a joint loan, go to the police.0 -
Ask for copies of the loan documents and if you are sure you did not sign them, lodge a complaint with the Police as advised.
Historically the banks did not generally make the checks that they do now. e.g. friends recently were taking out a joint mortgage and the female was dealing with everything with the bank. The bank called her partner independently to check that he knew all about the arrangements that were being made.0 -
My late husband had a loan on our joint account, I stuck to my guns with the bank, I was unaware and he was the only signatory, it got wiped.Do I need it or just want it.0

It should be listed on your CR if you/they have.
It would show the loan amount, date opened, payments, if they've been on time etc etc.
Make sure you check all 3 CRAs though.
If it's not on any of them, then I would be inclined to think it's not joint and they were hoping you would pay towards it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards. What do you mean, a loan on your joint account ? Do you mean you had a joint current account and he separately took a loan out for the two of you ?0
