purported e-mail from TSB

claims that there is an urgent message for me at the internet site of my current account. I must immediately log in and deal with it. Is it genuine? Anyone else had one? (I know that those are separate questions.)

I've had something similar from Lloyds. As long as there isn't a link for you to click, you should be OK simply logging in to your TSB account as normal. You should find there is a message for you - probably about interest or annual statement of interest paid.

Have you tried logging in to see if there's a message for you?

    What is the wording?

Last time I had a "IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM YOUR BANK" email it was just the annual interest/tax summary from Halifax.

If it were urgent they would likely phone you. If it were important but not urgent they would likely send via post.

Hover over the link in the email and see what the website address is.

    99.999999% certain it won't be tsb.co.uk!

Never click na link in an email to log in to your banking. Just go to TSB.CO.UK to check workout clicking a link.

    Also look up phishing attack.

Are you invited to log in using a link within the email, or not?

I get the same thing. It normally comes from 'donotreply@tsb.co.uk'

Along with the bit that says you have an important message should be information about what it's about. eg - subject [annual account summary], the date, the type of account [classic plus] and the account number [xxxx1234] etc

When you log in you should find there is a message in your inbox on internet banking. They do it this way if you've opted for paperless statements and correspondence.

  • I've just looked at half a dozen old emails from TSB and they all address me by name, although it varies whether they use my first name or 'Mr (surname)'. If the e-mail addresses you by name then it is more likely to be genuine but still don't risk clicking on any links in it.

Even if there is a link - log into the account as normal, never ever click the link unless you are absolutely certain that it is genuine and to be safest, not even then.

I got this - it is indeed about the annual interest statement. Don't understand why TSB conveyed it as if my account has been hacked...
