Returning a game to Game, refund or store credit?

Unfortunately OP you son may struggle with this, a quick search shows that although some are reporting problems the vast majority are rejecting it as a problem.
This will mean that to accept it back would be to admit a problem and open the floodgates to people who would take advantage to play and return. Companies aren't good at admitting liability so I assume they will test it to see if it is indeed faulty first.
It may also be of course that the game is merely pushing the PS4 harder, but within limits, than it has been pushed before. Not all games are as graphically and PSU intensive as others. As a PC gamer some of my games take my fan to 100% and some don't, the ones that do are bloody noisy but the PC copes.0 -
Thanks bris, I shall try to explain this to my boy. Whatever the outcome I think he would still refuse to play it just in case his PLS4 does explode (or implode, technology these days... you never really know lol) I will at least try to return it for him, whatever will be, will be. I shall post my outcome on here regardless. Thanks for looking deeper into this problem though, much appreciated. 0

I used to work in Game, though admittedly it was over 10 years ago now. There's good odds that the staff will have heard of the issue already as they're generally gamers themselves, but take a print out of a thread where others have discussed the same problem and you shouldn't have any problem getting a refund. If you'd prefer store credit then that's even better cos they'd prefer to give you that!
There's good odds, though, that if it's a known issue then they'll release a patch for it shortly anyway, and they may try to fob you off with exactly that, but stick to your guns if you still want a refund. I don't think it'll be an issue.0 -
Hi guys, just a quick update on my situation. I returned to the Game store which I purchased the game from, told them the problem I was having and they said to me in these words "that's impossible, must be doing something wrong. We haven't heard of this problem from any other person who has purchased this game" so basically called me a liar, to my face.... How polite. He then printed out a roll of blank receipt and told me to do what was written down which is as follows "go to system storage, delete doom data files and then reinstall" which did not work. My son had tried that before it was returned.
I sent a very nice, long message to the game customer service via email. They replied telling me that I had to return it to the store which I bought the game. They only deal with purchases made online, so at the end of it all I am stuck with a £50 disc that fails to work. I shall never visit, or spend any cash at game again. They have really made me feel like I'm lying. Any thoughts on what could be done now? I feel as if I've hit a brick wall 0 -
Ans besides, it cost £50 to buy from the game store and £40 for the exact same game brand new on eBay. Future purchases will be made from eBay, lesson has been learnt. Thanks for your help though MSE members, I honestly and truly appreciate your input and time 0

Why give up?? Take a video of what happens and show them. Cause an uproar in store!!!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
You know what pinkshoes, I might just do that. Show them what real life confrontation is like as opposed to video game confrontation. I'm sure they'd be more than willing to help then. Maybe, just maybe they will relate to my frustration and give me 2 copies of the game lol 0

info on ps4 and heat issues, the machine does run hotter when stood on its side but they also have a failsafe built into them, do you get the red light of death?

To be fair, I googled it after reading your updates and there is literally only 1 result and its someone asking if there have been overheating issues with doom rather than saying they'd had issues (and no one answered on the thread that they had had issues with the game itself).
How old is your sons console? Or has he already tried cleaning out the fans? Have you tried the game in another console or perhaps ask them to try it in store (they usually have consoles there set up that they can use to check)?
I'm not trying to offend, just trying to explain that it really is rare for a game to be the root cause of overheating. Given the circumstances mentioned so far (for all I know, its a brand new ps4!), I'd be inclined towards dust built up or perhaps the thermal paste issue (was a lot of results saying they needed to reapply the thermal paste on their ps4 as it was resulting in overheating) or at a push possibly even a broken fan if they're not turning at all.
Its something all computers are prone to - whether playstation, xbox or pc.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I must admit, I did the same and couldn't find many issues regarding overheating and most problems seem to be with the glitchy PC version.
I am surprised that they didn't try it out in store.0
