BREXIT - Why?

Four votes for out in this household. You must vote as you see fit, everyone has that right.
What ever the result we must respect it and move on. But I fear if we vote to stay in, it will be the wrong choice, in twenty years we will deeply regret it.
I am still of the opinion that even if we vote out, we won't leave. The government will create a puff of smoke and then hold another referendum. They should be ashamed, running this country onto the rocks.0 -
So if it's not negative then where's the issue complying? I'm assuming the lack of any example means it's another myth that EU are applying regulations affecting business but no-one seems able to provide any details.
....... and what about them interfering with the cinnamon in my pastries!

Although I have tried, I have never heard of anyone dying from a Danish Pastry overdose.

I think the stoke up fear campaign will win more support, but that little unrealistic voice inside is hoping that it will be decided on turnout ie a large percentage of the older turning out and the younger staying in to watch TV.
It could be decided by a decent programme on TV that night. That might decide it. Fingers crossed!

And in 100 years perhaps people will have the same views about Belgium and Poland having a say on the UK
With any club, members make decisions together. So it's not just one or two countries have a say on the UK, it's each contributing together. It's seems rather fanciful and somewhat like the school playground to think we can opt out of everything we don't like and just have all the bits we do. Some of the things being suggested to opt out of by Out side would appear to be destined to make us a pariah state.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
Ok , everyone agrees regulations needed. Why can not they be done by a government of any particular country?
Some things are just better done at a level above a certain country. I have an old car (well 1980s anyway) , looking through the manuals the fuel consumption is measured to the UK Passenger Fuel order 1977. Now that is done at an EU level. We forget how daft it would be for every country to specify their own regulations for measurement for example and the manufacturers have to follow each country they sell in. Now they do one test for all 28.
So it's fine so have simplicity but everyone doing their own thing will add to the costs overall.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

But we are in and are already marginalised.
We are on the losing side more often than not when the council votes. If you subscribe to the idea that what we vote for in the council represents the UK's best interests then presumably it is difficult to conclude anything other than that membership seems to give us rarely what is in our best interest. No?

Miele will no longer be able to sell it's more powerful vacuum cleaners in the UK because the EU has set power limits. It isn't greener because you simply take longer to clean. There are new similar laws for hairdryers, kettles, and toasters. And more.

Funny how Which magazine actually found the power cap had reduced electricity consumption but made zero difference to cleaning ability as manufacturers had improved efficiency. Which I'm guessing was the idea behind it but obviously doesn't fit the agenda of everything EU being bad.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

It is indisputable that manufacturers have improved efficiency, and the consumption has reduced as a result. I guess I believe that folks are sensible enough themselves to work that out over time by reading consumer reviews etc. Compared to ten years ago, when virtually no one read reviews now it seems everyone does. The EU interference on the topic to me therefore serves no purpose whatsoever. It is simply pointless interference.

You seem to give the average consumer more credit than most. I very much doubt the majority of buyers look at power consumption as a deciding factor. If consumers were that sensible then junk food outlets would go out of business too.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

You are conflating two completely different issues.
There are fat professors and Phds. Even doctors, who presumably are the best informed.0
