During first lockdown rates went as low as 8p-10p, January 2021 rates hit 29p ish for a few days, 17 days ago rate was 17p, rates now seem to have levelled maybe to a new normal level (for now)

Did you get this from Peter Thomson's site or from your own records? I think it is a case without a crystal ball of saying based on history that using current rates is not likely to be way out, failing unpredictable circs, or that it would be wise to build in a historically based safety margin (or even the opposite!)Telegraph Sam

My own experience0 -
I agree that the Tracker rates do seem to be very competitive. I have been trying to make a record of the various price movements and predictions in order to get a "context" - but am finding it very difficult to get consistent readings, between 1. the official quote that Octopus have given me, 2. their own gas and electric graphs and data, and 3. accessing the same through Peter Thomson. Maybe practice will make it easier but I am wondering if others are experiencing the same problems?Telegraph Sam

Guy Lipman is not the same as Peter Thomson??? Very impressive I agree but when I have done the comparisons for me using Octopus' own graphs there are contradictions. That said, at current levels Tracker does seem competitive even allowing some "safety" margin in respect of the smoke and mirrors. At the end of the day it comes down to deciding if seen historically current levels offer a better deal than the 12 M Fix.Telegraph Sam

Sam, aren't you already with octopus. If you contacted them perhaps you could be able to see how much you could have saved on tracker using your historical usage? Maybe they won't be able to but worth a shot.0

Yes. The various "tools" that are available give various forecasts and predictions which seem to confirm that Tracker would offer me savings compared with the latest fixed rate tariff. Though I'd be more confidant if I could get these estimates to agree.Telegraph Sam

How familiar are you with the various Tracker "demos"? Depending on how I have accessed and selected them individually I have got quite different results - different prices which accounts for the estimates [past and future] being different also. Confusing.Telegraph Sam
