I pay by variable D/D and had expected to see a credit of £66 or £67 (I'm not fussy) appear on my (Octopus) account against my bill just arrived. No joy. False expectations, misunderstanding, patience,, or prayers??? (I'd settle for 1 x £67 per month and not two 😀)

From what I've seen on social media they haven't credited anybody's account yet. Presumably the bill you've just received is largely for September usage, though?Telegraph_Sam said:I pay by variable D/D and had expected to see a credit of £66 or £67 (I'm not fussy) appear on my (Octopus) account against my bill just arrived. Our account has just been credited with £66 - labelled HM Government Discount Energy Bills Support Scheme.Telegraph_Sam said:I pay by variable D/D and had expected to see a credit of £66 or £67 (I'm not fussy) appear on my (Octopus) account against my bill just arrived. Consumerist said:Perfection is not something I expect from energy suppliers but I had expected something more truthful from Octopus. My mistake.Octopus is a company that advertised a £50 per year Loyal Octopus discount scheme which in reality turned out to be only a £48 per year discount and then cut that to only a £24 per year discount when they only provided the discount for 6 months before deciding to cut it short with no notice.I think that alone tells you all you really need to know. All energy suppliers are tarred with the same brush and need to be treated with a great deal of suspicion and are not to be trusted!

very poor service from them in the past three months.
Smart meters installed at the beginning of August, stopped working (by this I mean recording hourly consumption on their portal) after three weeks so I reported it.
Was promised updates that never came, the meters worked briefly mid september for two days and then went offline again.
I have decided to drop this anmd just provide them with readings every month.0 -
From memory my latest bill covers up to yesterday. But my understanding was that the credit would simply appear in my online account, independent of the bill timing, since in my case there isn't a fixed D/D to reduce?
[On the contrary it rather looks like they have duplicated the charge, but that is subject to further investigation if perfection is the ultimate objective]Telegraph Sam

The discount should be applied to your energy account in the next few days. When you get your bill early November (which will mostly be for October use) you will pay less. Means your May bill will be £67 less too!Telegraph_Sam said:I pay by variable D/D and had expected to see a credit of £66 or £67 (I'm not fussy) appear on my (Octopus) account against my bill just arrived. That seems to confirm one of the fuzzy points - that it is definitely the Octopus account and not one's bank a/c that gets the credit?Telegraph Sam

Well, your bank a/c gets a credit by way of a reduced DD payment.Telegraph_Sam said:That seems to confirm one of the fuzzy points - that it is definitely the Octopus account and not one's bank a/c that gets the credit?

Yes, some of the replies to the Octopus twitter account are suggesting that they shouldn't have BOTH the DD reduction and a credit to their account as that would be double reduction!Umiamz said:It's quite clear from another forum that I'm on that some people think that having their direct debit reduced by £67 is all that needs to happen. After all, they're paying £67 less so have more money in their bank accounts. Of course, if Octopus don't also credit that £67 to their Octopus account then their debt will continue to increase.
For some reason they can't get their heads around that and think it would end up with them receiving the £67 twice each month.
