I don't have smart meters, but get a page like this for each fuel type:

At the bottom of the page, the totals are used to work out the average unit rate, which is the figure displayed in the 'Your Charges In  Detail' part of the bill.
  • Interesting, I started on Tracker Gas 4 years ago (before SMETS2) meters, and I have been off and on it at various times since,  and I don’t get a daily detailed sheet even with a smart meter. Best I check with Octopus. I suspect that the difference in cost, if any, will be very small.

Do you have proof of that, or is that what you believe?

    Proof, from bills
My daily usage looks similar to @SJMALBA , but the usages actually go up and down day to day (as I have a smart meter).

And then below this is the following:

How we work out your average unit rate:
Total Cost £xx.xx ÷ Total Energy Used xxx.x kWh × Convert to pence 100 = Average unit rate 5.49p/kWh

That Average unit rate is the one used higher up.

Which looks like a standard average, but is actually different for everyone, as it is based on daily usage, and daily rate.

I've only had one bill since changing to tracker but I did get a daily summary page as shown by @SJMALBA.

As Octopus weren't getting smart readings then, mine showed the daily slightly decreasing pattern as previously mentioned.

Seems they are now getting readings so I should get an accurate summary of daily use next time.

With a smart meter, Tracker is billed based on each day's usage (as reported by the meter) at that day's unit price.

Do you have proof of that, or is that what you believe?
I see no evidence of daily billing.
I also get a page showing daily consumption (like alnat1, mine is calculated as my smart meter isn't).
Dolor you seem to be the odd one out here!

Do you have proof of that, or is that what you believe? I have had SMETS2 meters now for over 3 years and I have been on Octopus Tracker for over 2/3 of the time. If Octopus was raising a daily cost for Tracker customers with smart meters, then the billing would look like Agile with daily costs. My latest Tracker gas bill shows an average unit cost based on start and end of period index readings:

I see no evidence of daily billing. The statement also clearly states that the AVERAGE daily unit price is used.
Less than 7kw usuage in 31 days would be awkward to price daily so could that be the reason it’s totalled for the month?

Today's electricity DA is heading towards twice that of yesterday! Without the cap, tomorrow's unit rate would be (for me) 50.21p/kWh. :o

edit: oops! Got such a shock , I posted this in the wrong thread! 🤣

The drought across Europe, Russian war, competition for Europe gas increasing.

I am not sure where this is going to end up come October and into Jan.

Over the medium / long term Ofgem seem to be pushing for price stabilisation, so that we get a more flatter pricing structure rather than big swings up one year and down the next. They are looking to do this by having suppliers buy years in advance without risk to them if the market price collapsed and being stuck with high priced energy and customers then switching to cheaper providers.

Yes we would likely never again see gas and Elec at previous low prices but would also not see spikes In the price like we see now. Not sure how it would work in practice but if you could be pretty much be guaranteed a fairly consistent unit price for gas and elec over the next decade most would probably take it for security.
