Octopus Energy reviews: Give your feedback

Absolutely furious. I switched to Octopus Energy just four weeks ago and they have just emailed me to tell me that they are increasing their prices and my DD will in fact be £12 more per month than originally quoted. It is clear from their letter that this increase was planned some time ago and that they would have been well aware that the price they were quoting me when I switched was NOT the price I would actually be paying. A very dishonest way of doing business. Avoid!!0

Welcome to MSE :hello:
MSE has been banging on for I don't know how long to grab a fixed tariff due to rising prices. Even this week's email had yet another reminder (although most cheap fixed tariffs have now disappeared)0 -

Did you go for a fixed or variable tariff and what was actual date of your transfer.
If it was a fixed tariff and your contract started before the increase then they should not be able to change it unless you were notified that a change was imminent and that you'd be put onto the new tariff.
If you went for a variable then they are quite within their rights to change it when they like and to just give you 30 days notice.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
I too changed to Octopus and have received an email informing me that I will have a £9 per month. However they are offering a loyal customer discount for a fixed price where my increase would be £ 4 less so just £5 increase.
There are a few other companies which offer me a little but less but undecided as to date the customer service has been excellent.
There is an energy company with a tariff for economy 7 customers. It has got a price for day units all night units are free but there is a high daily charge in excess of £1. 20 ? I am not able to get it to scroll up to see all the details but it tells me based on my units of use. Says £875 which somehow does not ring true I do use almost 80% night use I do not have a fire We have a communal laundry in my development so not using any electricity to wash or dry clothes.
I wonder if anyone has got any views on this. I will try doing a search through Uswitch rather than MSE energy club.

I think you'd need to check the T&C's very carefully to ensure that they'll let you use as much as 80% on the free low rate.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

I have had a look on uswitch and got the details It is EBICO but needs to have a smart meter for this tariff I entered my meter readings and it provided me with a pride Day 18.136 p Night zero and daily standing charge is 112.43. This is a fixed
Tariff is called Night Owl 7V2 I can't believe that the tariff should be so much less.
However without a suitable meter it is of no use to me .
They do have another tariff which is less than Octopus fixed rate I think I just need to do a bit of thinking about it The price increase with Octopus is not until 2nd December
I did the sums again and my night use if just under 80% When I had to put
I live in a retirement complex and there is no gas so have to depend on Economy 7. Because I do not have a fire my two storage heaters in my living room tend to be on a fairly high setting. I use a microwave which can grill use as an over as well as a microwave which is much cheaper than using my oven obviously. The whole thing sounds too good to be true but the meter would be the stumbling block for me.

why would the meter be a problem for you. You need a meter of some sort so what is your objection, especially if it will save you moneyNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

I went to Octopus on 1st August as part of the Iresa takeover. I switched to another supplier which was considerably cheaper on 12th September and after 6 weeks waiting for a final bill and no activity on the online account I chased them and had my final bill a day after the 6 weeks and refund a few days later but annoying they had to be chased for this to happen.0

The problem seems to be that I don't have the correct meter To change t:eek: them Maybe I misunderstood it but it states as the very beginning that a particular meter is required Sue0
