Hi Scarlett. I think you need to put you link on the Referrers area rather than here.

My £6.03 credit appeared in my bank account yesterday without having to set up a direct debit so I'm not sure why they made a bit of an issue about it.
Anyway all sorted, account cleared and closed, just got to deal with Eversmart for the next 10 months
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
  • 11 days after switching to Octupus I received an email from them saying they were very sorry but they were raising their prices by almost £11 per month. This was for me a 12.5% increase on the deal that I thought I was getting when I switched. So as from next month my payments would go from £85 roughly to £96 roughly. I was shocked by this and emailed a complaint but they didn't even reply. I joined Octopus mainly because they were recommended by Which?magazine - what a let down. Also they take the first months payment before they even start supplying me. And my previous company First Utility carry on taking their monthly payment until they have sorted my account. I am told this could take up to 8 weeks. Why? And of course they could come up with any final bill they like as they have never at any time given me any indication of how much I was over/under spending. Surely we should know this? Otherwise the whole process of switching is dodgy and open to frauding customers.

I too just changed from Flow Energy to Octopus I knew that the rate was variable but didn't expect the have an increase on the 1st December Increase will cost me £92 extra a year. I have just paid my first direct debit. I am worried that this might continue thoughout the year. I am now wondering if I should now look for a better deal with a fix for 12 months. EOn I would save around £123 a year based on the new figures.
Thoughts or should I sit tight. Like you I switched because of the excellent reviews and the Which report
    Many thanks Sue

I was moved to Octopus when Iresa ceased trading. All went smoothly but at the time Bulb were cheaper so started the switch.

During my cool off period Bulb announced a price increase that meant I would be paying more than if I had stayed with Octopus. Decided to cancel the switch. Informed bulb and had to chase confirmation. Also, contacted Octopus to say I was staying with no issues.

Since then Octopus have put prices up. But as an ex Iresa customer I wont be included. Win win!

I will switch when price dictates though.

The upper limit of SVTs is effectively fixed until April 19 by the recently introduced OFGem default tariff.

Note: this is not an ‘all you can’ tariff. The maximum price that a supplier can charge is based on postcode and a specified number of kWhs/year. Use more = pay more.

  • Quick switch- one of the cheapest plus a £50 in your account for recommendations- didn't bank on the email from Stuart, Chief Financial Officer after 3weeks adding £14 to my monthly bill though!

Trawling the deals again to leave and get back to where I started!

    ONE TO AVOID!

Welcome to the forum. Octopus' online app allows you to set your own DD amount. That said, I suspect that your DD has been increased because you have made a late season switch and with higher Winter consumption the supplier does not want your account to go into debit:

Quote: 9.2 The method of payment will be standard monthly direct debit and you are responsible for ensuring that the direct debit can be paid in full on the due date. If you are struggling to pay we may install a Prepayment Meter which will require you to top up credit to pay for your supply.

9.2.1. (i) you should keep your account in credit, Unquote

DD payments are nothing more than money paid on account from which charges are deducted. You will only pay for your usage at the agreed tariff rate. Your DD amount should fall come Spring 2019.

PS: most of the cheapest (smallest) suppliers will seek payment in advance of supply and they will expect you have enough credit to pay the next month's charges.
