What Smart meters do Octopus Energy install themselves or does it vary depending on what part of the country you are in?They can automatically read all second generation (SMETS2)Octopus sometimes install S/M themselves/third party install0 -
As I suggested, go to the Logicor Energy and enter the property address and you should see something like this:(as I understand it they get the meter type directly from the National Database)

With all the interesting comments on smart meters and how many there are, does it in fact make any difference which one the Octopus engineer actually selects and installs? I believe that my new one is a SMETS2 Chameleon 2020. Do they in effect all do the same thing regardless?
Mine shows daytime Usage Now of 0 kWh (with just the PC and router switched on) but this leaped to 239 W in the early morning with everything switched off. I am baffled how to account for this.Telegraph Sam

Chameleon make the IHD that appears to causing you so much concern.

I don't believe I have any particular concerns with the Chameleon meter other than getting to understand what it can / cannot do before and after it gets fully connected up. It is unclear if the present early state qualifies as being "commissioned", or if that has yet to come when the website "recognizes" the meter. And I get switched to Go Faster.
For Energise read SME in my circumstances who in turn contracted with a local fitter to do the job.Telegraph Sam

Chameleon do not manufacture smart meters. Their expertise lies in producing In House Displays (IHDs) which connect to your smart meter communications club via a Home Area Network (the HAN).You can see whether your smart meters are transmitting data by signing up for an account with N3rgy.com. Use the ‘I am consumer’ link. You will need your MPAN and the number off the bottom of your IHD.
It can take a few days for Octopus to fully commission your meters. They have to send out security certificates to your meters. Octopus will not transfer you to Go Faster until they have received a few days of 30 minute data.0 -
Thanks the bits are ever so slowly falling into place. I will follow your tip about N3rgy.com. It sounds like the transfer to GF is not a quick and easy instant event. Is the requirement for getting 30 minute data the reason for, as I was once told, me having to access GF via Go, and not without passing Go, or are the two not connected?Telegraph Sam

Once your smart meter fully goes online you will realise what we are talking about with regards to what data is available about your usage. Your online account updates daily on the exact usage for the previous day. It is nothing like your current set up with tracker.
With regards to people asking about smart meters and how it works with octopus.
If you have a smets2 meter and are switching to octopus then they will be able to get smart reading from it.
If you have a smets1 meter then they may be able to get readings from it, if your meter has been upgraded remotely to the dcc. If it hasn't and they can't get readings you have two options, you can either wait till it gets upgraded or you can ask octopus to change your smart meter to the latest smets2 ones, which they will do free of charge. Hope that helps.0 -

I'm guessing: Tracker is innovative but not truly ToU. They need ToU data as a basis for switching me to Go Faster which is what they can only now get from the new smart meter. Pure speculation on my part. But I don't see why they can't use the data as it is now generated in real time. I have selected my preferred time-slot. Someone can enlighten us.Telegraph Sam
