  • It is an IHD 6 (white border). The explanation must be that it is still "waiting for (CIN)" and that when this has come through the other values will update. The 13.26 p must be some kind of interim default value.
You might have a long wait. Two meters and two IHDs on, this is what my IHD shows:

You might get a message on the IHD ‘ESME Connected’.

PS. There is no point connecting the IHD 6 to your home wifi.

That looks very similar to mine.  Something is obviously "connected" even if I am still waiting for a CIN.  I had no intention of bringing the WiFi into it. When  they want the first reading manually I guess this has to be via the website as previously.

Err no. The TOTAL meter readings can be seen in the IHD menus.

Hopefully it will be clearer what input it wants from me and how once the system is fully connected. One wonders if it can charge the customer correctly whilst these connections are still to be set up.

The ihd is irrelevant here. You will be charged by octopus depending on the meter reads for whatever tariff you've chosen. The "monetary values" on the ihd are irrelevant and not what will appear on your bills regardless if what it says. Personally I would suggest using the ihd to show kwh rather than £ (you do this by clicking the values and it cycles between the two)

What happens next entirely depends on how you've joined go or go faster. If you signed up to "go" online your website will update automatically as soon  as your smart meter is online (usually takes about 24hrs) if you have signed up by email/phone or waiting for the "email" for go faster I'd suggest emailing the smart team and telling them your smart meter has been installed and that you'd like to join go faster now, they should send the email pretty quickly.

Also, you won't be asked for meter readings. Once it's online it'll all be automatic.

" ... for whatever tariff you've chosen".  That is the crunch point! I got myself a Go Faster invite list from them some time back followed by another one on getting hooked up today.  But if I'm not now to believe what values are displayed on the IHD, the question arises just what tariff I am on (and where then the mysterious one that is displayed came from itself).
I don't seem to be able to get  my meter to cycle between tariff values and kwh. But if I multiply one by the other what results is not what they call "Bill so far"... KWh x tariff rate = bill strikes me as basic.
I suspected that there would be some smoke & mirrors at least in the early stages and it looks like I'm not going to be disappointed.
I'm sure I read somewhere that they wanted an initial manual reading.

Sam, don't overcomplicate it. You're getting ahead of yourself, your meter has only just been installed and it takes a few days for everything to kick in. THE IHD IS IRRELEVANT to what tariff you are actually on. The tariff you are on is whatever appears on your website account. If the website says you are on go or go faster then that's what you are on. There will be no mysterious loophole discount that you will get just like when the tracker rates were wrong.

You will see that your website will update and look slightly different when it has connected to the smart meters successfully, there will be plenty of information for you to monitor your actual usage.

If your account on the website still says tracker then that is what you're currently on. I seem to remember you get a confirmation email once they've move you to go faster.

You should ignore any monetary values on your ihd. They are only there for information and as a rough guide they will be inaccurate as they don't cycle through the two rates. Mine says its 5.5p and stays like that. If you use the ihd set it to kwh so you can see the energy you are using in using in the day in real-time and is far more useful.

You can see which tariff you are currently on by logging into your Octopus account.

I initially signed up to Agile but it was pending due to no smart meter readings being sent to them. Once this was sorted out, and they confirmed they were receiving half hourly readings, I got an email which invited me to sign up to Agile and to accept the T&Cs. I imagine it might be similar for Go or Go Faster?

At the moment you are probably on the same tariff as you were on before the smart meter install unless your account states differently.

Since mine has only recently started sending meter readings I need to check other tariffs, whilst I like the idea of Agile at the moment it’s been very expensive compared to other Octopus tariffs and other suppliers.

Most have moved away from agile to go faster in the last few months as it just hasn't been economically viable this year, past year agile was much better.

The daily average is around 23p/kWh at the moment so, yes, not a tariff to be on unless you can shift usage to the cheapest periods or are exporting.
