No, I haven't ditched Kaspersky just switched it out and windows firewall back in.
I have used KP for the last 5 1/2 years and to be honest some stuff has got through that was picked up on so on advice from the guy that worked on it last week I swapped them over and went with MBs as no malware type threats where being picked up.
'Switched it out' has a variety of possible interpretations,

    firewall is windows firewall
    antimalware protection is MB
    antivirus protection is ?????
Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand

Part of the Furniture 10,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
My terminology in stating can't download did seem to cause confusion, I did actually mean download and run.

Now that you have explained that, surely what was suggested in earlier posts - copy the downloaded file to a memory stick and run the download on the problem machine - makes sense?

There are several saved copies of that file in my downloads, just still don't seem able to fully open them,

OK ... so you DO have the file. It seems your problem was you were trying to run that file on YOUR machine - that was always going to fail. You needed to COPY that file (e.g. to a USB pendrive), copy it again from the pendrive to the OTHER machine, then RUN the file on the OTHER machine.

That's what people had been trying to tell you. :)

Because your PC doesn't have the AR81.

Nobody else (without AR81) has said they've been able to download and run the utility ... simply that they've been able to download it. You have to copy it to the other PC and run it ON the other PC.

It's not possible to make this any clearer.

Good old reliable Ruby, still as rude and insulting as ever.

Have you ever built a complete bungalow?, built cars from steel tube upwards?, wired complete houses?, designed and installed complete CH systems? Well I have and I was mechanical engineer not a builder. My skills transferred but I'm now in my mid 60's and they don't transfer to a non computer based education that occurred to late for me when I was fully engrossed in other stuff.

Download and save that were monkeys keep their nuts

That actually does make it clear in so far as to the principal, but bear this in mind, I've never used a memory stick in my life to transfer from 1 machine to another.

The other point is I have never had a download that will not also run, I wasn't aware that this was only part of atheros I was trying to install

As was pointed out in #10, "You are running the installer after downloading it, it is rightly telling you that it can't detect the hardware. Find the file in your download folder, then copy it to a USB stick, then run it on the Lenovo".
No that I don't get, is it not software?, I thought it was only software that can be uninstalled not hardware.
