Well I got it done, but she hadn't done a system restore before so on Lenovo's advice I had to restore to factory default. That was suggested here but I didn't want the hassle of saving all data unless I had to.

Now all sorted, remind not not to faff about with stuff I dodn't fully understand, ('er indoors already has):D

The sledgehammer to crack a nut approach and all because you have a problem on your PC and could not not download the one small driver file required!

I suggest that you sort out your PC now.

And I suggest you accept the thanks you have received from me and butt out?

It was not a PC issue which if you take the care to read after you suggested others go to Specsavers, will become clear to you.

Maybe a more aggressive forum is the place for you????
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I am the only person who tried to help you in this thread that you haven't thanked.

You do have a PC issue if you cannot download and save the driver file on your PC to transfer to another PC.

Maybe a more aggressive forum is the place for you????

Maybe you are just super sensitive!

Don't worry I won't ever try to help you again.

Well your post doesn't copy so I'll answer it from memory this way.

I can see I didn't thank you. You have my apologies as I religiously thank everyone that helps or tries to help, sorry, I will rectify that dependant on your next post as you seem as equally over sensitive to "thanks" as you suggest I am to criticism.

I was told by Lenovo the the "only way...... as you have removed the program, it cannot be downloaded", so guessing no PC issues given that both machines are now working fine.

You were aggresive to an earlier poster, go to specsavers was it?, calm down dear calm down, I'd said lets have no falling out here as a got the sense of aggression if no one else did.

No, I'm not worried about you not helping again, but chill out with the attitude for others sake, have a good life.

    OK let's summarise this thread:

In your first post you pleaded for help to locate the driver that you had deleted from your wife's machine, which prevented it connecting to the net.

Others posted links but you stated that you could not download the necessary driver on your PC, to then transfer to your wife's PC via USB drive.

I posted a tested link direct to the required driver and told you that it was a 4KB file after downloading the file myself. It makes no difference if you have Atheros AR81 controller installed on the machine, as I stated in post #11

If you can't download and save this file on your PC then you do have a problem that needs to be sorted backed up by the

"What’s the difference between “Save” and “Run” when downloading?" link provided in post #17

Lenovo instructed you to do a restore to default setting as you could not connect to the net on her machine but I bet that you did not tell them that you could not download the required 4KB driver file on your machine did you!

Restoring to default settings was a ridiculous way to fix this problem on your wife's PC and you will now have MB's of Windows updates to download and also AV etc. to sort out. rather than copying a 4KB file across, hence the "sledgehammer to crack a nut" comment.

You say "guessing no PC issues given that both machines are working fine" but only two weeks ago I remember that you had major problems on your PC here and stated "I'm going to park the car on it soon" in your frustration.

I have showed no aggression - the other posted had assumed that you had downloaded the driver file when you admitted in post #19 that you hadn't and could not and that you would try to do this later on a friends PC and then transfer it across to your wife's machine.

I am not sensitive to Thanks, I only mentioned the Thanks because you stated "I suggest you accept the thanks you have received from me and butt out?" when you had not even thanked me once and your "butt out" remark was unnecessarily aggressive when I was still trying to help you by telling you that still have a problem on your PC to sort out.

If both of your PC's are now working as they should, you will be able to download and save the driver file to a USB drive on both of them. If you can't do this as instructed on the Lenovo website then you still have a problem to sort out as I stated before to got the hump!.

You should be able to download any file from any website on your PC's without problems, like I do frequently on a daily basis.

I certainly do not have an attitude problem, so no need to chill out as you put it, I'm just fine.

Your original solution to the problem was good and downloading this small driver file and transferring it to your wife's PC should have only taken a few minutes but resetting to factory default setting was just silly and totally unnecessary.

 lets call it quits, it was my reaction around post 13# after you'd had a pop at an earlier poster and like me you can unintentionally insert a tone in your posts that others find offensive.

You did try to help and as such I have thanked you, I simply missed ticking the box as I was getting very frustrated.

About the earlier PC issue, it went into the local techie guy for a couple of days last week, there were several hard drive issues plus some maleware that Kaspersky Pure had missed. I thought I had Malwarebytes installed but the trial had run out. I have now shut down Kaspersky, re-instated windows firewall and purchased Malwarebytes premium, all seems fine and armed with this enthusiasm I decided to clean up the wifes laptop as she downloads all sorts of crud. The rest of the story is history.

I did tell Lenova exactly what I'd done so had to go the reset way as I had little other options

I have tried to download atheros again today but get the same result, it downloads but won't run so I still obviously don't know what I'm doing but hey ho all's now fine on the other machine.
This machine is fine with every thing else I download.

So  and hopefully that's an end to our little spat

Thanks for confirming that what I have previously told you is fact.

You should be able to save the required driver file from the Lenovo support website to any machine and if you choose to ignore that you have a problem, then so be it.

If 'shut down' means uninstalled, you've removed one of the better anti virus products, and replaced it with nothing.

A backup disk will be much cheaper than the techie guy in the long run

I've just tried to use both chrome and internet explorer to open it, get the same result both ways, get Save Link As...., but don't get int exp option when clicked.

Re-installed chrome again this morning as I got a flash plug in alert and re install was the googled advice.

There are several saved copies of that file in my downloads, just still don't seem able to fully open them, My terminology in stating can't download did seem to cause confusion, I did actually mean download and run.

No, I haven't ditched Kaspersky just switched it out and windows firewall back in.
I have used KP for the last 5 1/2 years and to be honest some stuff has got through that was picked up on so on advice from the guy that worked on it last week I swapped them over and went with MBs as no malware type threats where being picked up.

As you can tell I just don't get this sheite and find it so frustrating.

It doesn't really matter now but I would like to understand the problem, all my other saved downloads old and new work fine.
