    £123.70 in the support group.

From what I've read this is correct, so he doesn't receive the severe disability allowance?

So why have they put it on the housing benefit?

Makes me wonder if they mixing him up with someone else?

Once you have closed your CA claim:

    Then:
For your son to claim the SDP a form IS10 needs to be obtained from the DWP and completed:

"Extra money – Severe Disability Premium
You may be able to get extra money with your Income Support,
Jobseeker's Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance because
    ● you or your partner are getting the standard or enhanced rate of the daily living
    component of Personal Independence Payment
    ● you or your partner are getting the middle or highest rate of the care component
    of Disability Living Allowance, or
    ● your partner is getting Attendance Allowance.
We call this extra money a Severe Disability Premium. Before we can decide if you
can get this, we need some more information.
We are writing to you because
    you have recently claimed benefit
    you have recently changed address
we need to check if your circumstances have changed.
When we receive this completed form we will decide if we can pay the
    Severe Disability Premium. "

it is the severe disability premium that entitles him to the 1 bed rate of LHA rather than the shared accommodation rate.
so i think if he doesn't get the SDP he wont get the 1 bed rate.

    housing benefit officer will know

Thank you for your help in this matter, my stomach is in knots!

Please can someone confirm how I can find out if he's received the severe disability allowance, where would this be mentioned? In his dla paperwork or ESA ( I can't find it on either)

He can't recieve the Severe Disability Premium whilst you are getting CA for him.

You close your CA claim, then your son can apply to recieve the SDP.
As housing benefit officer has confirmed, your son's HB amount will then increase.

Your CAB should be able to help.

Thank you so so so much! Yes I think your right, this must be what's happened.

So he def doesn't get the severe premium going on the ESA amounts I've told you he gets?

So I can breath a sigh of relief, phew!

Wonder why they put it on the housing benefit form?

Tomorrow I will close the carers allowance straight away. And apply for him to get the SDP.

Can't thank you guys enough x

Yep the key is the SDP.

If he receives a qualifying benefit he will get the SDP and his HB will increase as it will be based on 1 bedroom rate rather than shared room rate..

Although if you cancel your Carers Allowance what income will you be in receipt of? You might have to start signing on and be actively seeking work while still caring for your son.

Yes previously I got the information in writing, (11 months ago) it said....you can apply for a studio/1 bedroom property

Was this for applying for a council property rather than claiming HB for private rented? This may be where the confusion started.

Yes I think it was , I've struggled helping him because of my own health issues. Yes I'm going to be in trouble myself, no income at all

I can't work, as I've been diagnosed with eds3 and pots syndrome, I pass out a lot and can't stand for too long due to blood not getting to my heart and brain. But because my husband works (on low income) I'm not entitled to hardly anything just low rate mobility.

so things will be tough, but my son must come first
