Leeds bld Society not accepting proof of address

Hi everybody,

My Wife and I have applied for a mortgage with Leeds building society through a broker (only option we have). 2 weeks ago they requested bank statements for my wife going back to the beginning of 2014 for proof of address shes not on elector role as she isn't a UK citizen yet and they didn't accept the recent online statements that we sent at the start. We don't get paper statements and we live with my parents so no bills etc to use in place of statements, so went to the bank (natwest) to order them. It came last week and we passed them on, the broker checked leeds were ok with it.

Today they've come back and rejected them saying they wanted the 3 monthly type statements that you would get if you were subscribed to posted statements not a single document which covers the whole time period. My broker tried to explained our circumstances as to why we wouldn't be able to supply that but shes had to escalate it up to the region business manager as they wouldn't listen. Even if we ordered statements in 3 monthly chunks they would all be dated as printed this month!

I am now super scared that our application is going to fall through due to in my opinion leeds being super bureaucratic , is this ridiculous or normal??? I read others saying leeds were slow and disorganized but this.....

Has anyone had similar experiences? do you think the manager at will take any action? we have other documents from back in 2014 from places like the home office and hospitals maybe they can use discretion?:(

This is one where you need to keep faith with your broker.

Run away from the Leeds. Run fast. We almost lost our house because they dragged things out for six months before they even agreed to do the valuation. Then they slipped in that they were suddenly only willing to lend less than 25% of what we originally wanted and that they had agreed to in priciple.

I kind of wish we could run away but for now they are our only option, the flat we're going for is both new build and shared ownership.
What makes it more depressing is that our broker thinks this is the last thing they wanted, we're 4 weeks in, valuation has been carried out successfully , pretty sure we've passed credit checks....
For now will let the broker continue try to make them see sense
  • No much help really but we are dealing with Leeds at the moment. We got asked for several documents they included a proof of address for 2016. So we sent council tax. We are both new build and shared ownership.

I'm guessing you also have a 28 day to exchange deadline which makes things more stressful!

A different HA but same thing. We have 28 days then if it goes over we have to exchange 7 days after mortgage offer.

the postcode for the property we want to buy is CM20 2FP
  • Sorry - that knackers the possible solution I was thinking of - Leeds can be a nightmare and difficult to negotiate with but all you can do is put your faith in your broker. I'm by no means a shared ownership specialist, nor any local knowledge in that area - hopefully your broker qualifies better on both accounts.

We also bought a new build shared ownership and after we dumped the Leeds, we went to Nationwide. Everything went through fine with them.
