You need to help your wife understand why low mileage at 7 years old is NOT necessarily good.

The original Toyota warranty is about to expire (which is likely why it's been traded in) and whatever warranty you get will be liable to wear and tear exemptions.

Like several others have tried to explain, low mileage means 'extreme conditions' to me - short journeys, never fully up to temperature, and those wheel-trims tell you exactly how careful the previous owner was.
I understand perfectly, but she still might not agree. To be honest I am just grateful that she is not insisting on a new car.

The original new-car warranty expired nearly two years ago, when the car hit five years since registration.

It is Toyota's approved-used warranty that covers for the 12mo from purchase - or until 7yo, whichever comes first.

Even a new car warranty would exclude a worn-out clutch.

The only possible remedy would be under consumer legislation - and you'd have to convince a judge that the failure was unreasonable for a car of that age and apparent condition.

A 2009 car would originally have had a 3 year warranty. The 5 year warranty (U.K. only) wasn't introduced until June 2010.

Just an example to show the OP why that particular Yaris is not good value.

There are others but they were 3door and the OP has spotted a 5door so I never bothered looking at the 3 doors.

    Did I say buy it?

Or say Inwould go for something like this?

What doctor want next? Me to test drive it first before putting up an example.

The one mentioned above has no service history mentioned.

Does that mean it has none?

    :rotfl:

    Touchy touchy.

So your advice was 'look at this poorly serviced example for 30% more' ?

    Why ?

That price does look quite high to me. I have a similar spec late 2010 Yaris 1.33 TR which I bought 3.5 years ago (end of 2012) - at the time it was on just under 5000miles and in great condition, I paid £7650 from a main dealer.

Having said that they are good reliable cars, mine is £30/year tax and gives 50+mpg driven sensibly. I've kept mine main dealer serviced and have had no issues with it. Mine is red with black interior which I think is nicer than the one linked, but each to their own personal preferences.

I can't help but think there must be better value examples out there, although it may involve spending a bit more and getting a newer example.

I spoke to the dealer and they said that the warranty does include roadside assistance bearing that in mind plus the parking sensors which are -trust me I can't explain why - a good idea, is the price that bad?

If you're happy yourself with the price and condition/history of the car checks out then go for it. I think when I bought mine I got £250 of the advertised price by saying I'd take it there and then if they did the deal, so worth a bit of haggling.
