Yes, I'm assuming the OP isn't a business seller due to the nature of her post.

I wasn't sure because of this line "
I sold and item to someone on 25.4.16 and sent it 2nd class signed for as requested. The customer bought some more of the same item from me later the same week. "

Ah yes, does put it in a different light. I missed that bit and assumed because of this bit
2nd class signed for as requested.
and the post in general that it was a novice seller. Postage is my decision, not the buyer's.

Completely agree with the latter statement, I had one only a couple of months back who wanted me to send a £30 item surface mail to the US and accused me of profiteering when I refused.

Just to clarify. The items I sold were London Marathon Officials medals for the last 11 years.I work on the London Marathon and each year we get a replica medal. I also had some duplicates as my sister gives mer hers. So they are mine to sell and no I am not a novice or a business seller.
Royal Mail signed for covers up to £50.00 and I chose not to increase the compensation at my risk . The buyer made me an offer somewhat below my price and suggested 2nd class.
I believe the sender and recipient can claim from Royal Mail for a lost or damaged item. My buyer is happy to pursue but if he asks me for more help I will help him

Let's assume the buyer is telling the truth.

Why should they claim. They don't have the proof of posting, even if you send it to them, they won't get the full value of the item. They will lose money. Why should they, when in your own words, you chose to undervalue the item.

They knew I was sending it second class with no extra compensation. They did not know I was sending it signed for which bumped the compensation up to £50.00 from £20.00.

You really don't understand do you. Put yourself in their shoes.

You buy something for £80. Have an near heart attack when you see it says delivered, check the tracking and it says rose28454 has signed for it. You didn't and now the seller isn't playing ball.

If your buyer is determined, you will lose out because of this. Perhaps then, you might see things from another point of view.

On the other hand buyer has item, decides to bully seller into refunding (they were not expecting it to be sent signed for after all), seller refunds and buyer does it again and again to other sellers.

Personally I would refuse a refund here but keep on at Royal Mail to get their complete acknowledgement that item went to the address stated, and not a neighbour. If this was a courier I would be considering a dumped delivery, but it is Royal Mail.

I am an honest E-Bayer who is trusting of people. Funny thing is I had a bad feeling about this buyer because he suggested I send second class as he had made a lower offer but I was a reassured when he made further purchases the same week. However when I looked at the notes on his order page ( that I didnt see originally he asked me to use stamps and not a postage label from Royal Mail ( because he collects stamps). Dont know if this was his way of ensuring I just bought stamps and didnt get proof of posting. Anyway I didnt see the note so posted it 2nd class and used signed for. I asked in the post office yesterday and they said if it has been signed for then nothing can be done about it.
Nice for a change on here to see someone taking the op's side instead of being so negative and accusing me of being dishonest. I think he is trying it on and I was contacted through an ebay link and not directly by buyer. You would have thought he would have just sent me a message. I have sent him tracking no so now its up to him. I posted it in good faith with a signature. What more can I do now?
