Buyer says item not received. Tracking says otherwise

I sold and item to someone on 25.4.16 and sent it 2nd class signed for as requested. The customer bought some more of the same item from me later the same week. I received a note from Ebay tonight saying he hasnt received the first parcel. When I checked it is showing as being delivered on 28.4 and was signed for by someone with his name. Where do I stand now?

I believe if you upload the tracking number and he's signed for it you'll be okay, it'll go in your favour.

If tracking shows as delivered you will be covered as far as the eBay case goes. I usually let the customer know it was delivered on xyz and signed for by mr abc. I always let them know that if they want me to dispute the delivery with the carrier I will do so. Sometimes I hear back that the item was taken in by someone, sometimes the item delivery is disputed. A good seller will ask the carrier to intervene.

This happened to me a while back and when I showed the buyer proof of delivery he came back and said his brother had it and had hidden the parcel for a "laugh"

    Yeh, well funny.

I posted the tracking details on the listing last night but he said he couldn't find them that was late last night soi said I would send details today. I think he's trying it on but it shows as delivered with A signature and his surname ( when the postman asks you to sign and asks your surname) ta all

I had this happen to me as the purchaser. Even though the signature that appear on the Trackiing record clearly wasn't anyone's name, just a squiggle, Ebay still went against me and said the parcel had been delivered when it had not.

So I think you will be okay if you stick to your guns. If the seller can prove their signature is different to that that has been signed, e.g. by sending a copy of their driving licence, you might consider offering to go halves with them on the cost. At the end of the day, these sorts of issues do occasionally arise with eBay and I was happy to write off the cost against all the other bargains I had had and resolution disputes that went my way.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

The signature doesnt really matter according to Royal Mail. When i had a problem before with an item delivered to me but not signed for they told me the postman can sign and pop it through your boss. My husband was a postman for 33 years and said this isnt true. However as it has his name on the proof online I think he did sign for it. It was an £80.00 sale so dont want to really lose the money

The signature is immaterial , Royal Mail do not expect the recipient to sign, they only need a signature . Also PayPal do not need a signature for low value items either, just proof of delivery to the address.

OP Whilst you will win any eBay or PayPal case it is always wise to assist the buyer by giving them as much info as you can . Timing of delivery etc.

I have given him all the info including the time and i know anyone can sign. The signature is un readable but the relevant matter is it says his surname on the delivery proof.
I have been ebaying for over 10 years and have a positive feedback score of 2000

    Your last sentence means nothing.

You will win the case. But, put yourselves in the buyer's shoes, if the item really has been left and perhaps signed by the postie (the surname is easily guessed if you read the address label), then you should offer to dispute the delivery. That is good customer service.

I was trying to say I am not new to EBay. I dont see how the delivery can be disputed if its signed for. WE will see what he comes back with. I am an honest ebayer and I had an odd feeling about this one as he beat me down on price and encouraged me to send it 2nd class?
