Well I made practical use to TypoTrawler today - by browsing for nothing in particular in the techy section, found a nice mp3 player and won the auction at a good price.
That's good to hear!
Out of interest, would you mind posting the mp3 player model and the rough price you paid, so we can see what kind of saving you made?
Thanks

We've made good progress on the new category system... here's a screenshot of the new version:

There's a little more testing to be done, but it should be ready soon... though we might wait until tomorrow before changing to the new version, to give us a little more time to test it.
(you'll notice only mobile phones come up in the screenshot, because we ran out of API calls, having just used them all on a full US site update).0 -
Great site, would be good to select sub groups is DVDs / games only. Does it not run off live data ? Says this on bottom of site - This is not live data. Last update was: Sat Sep 8 14:09:25 UTC 20070

Ebay limit the amount of searches we're allowed to do through our site. So to be most economical, we update TypoTrawler once a day and store the results in our database. This means that each item only has to be found once, instead of a search being made for each item by each user. Without doing this, the site wouldn't be feasible. This also means that every single typo we find is relayed to our users. If we did it on a per user basis, there would be far fewer results and they would be of poorer quality.
The downside is that the prices displayed on our site aren't up to date - they'll be out by a few hours. So if someone bids on an item in between an update and you viewing TypoTrawler, the price will be slightly off. The eBay API license dictates that if the data isn't live (defined as something like being over an hour old, I can't remember specifically) you must make this clear on your site.
I appreciate that "This data is not live" is a little confusing, so I've reworded it
We're going to apply for a higher API call limit (so we can do more searches) and if they accept our application, we'll be able to update hourly instead

A 128MB Creative Muvo MP3 Player with FM tuner used but in original packaging, £13.20 + £1.80 P&P. This may even be no special saving had it been spelled correctly - just that TypoTrawler mad it easy to browse items I "might" be interested in. Which is why I now realize that an application that draws my attention to Ebay items that I am "sort of" looking for would be a good find. Maybe it already exists or maybe the creator if TypoTrawler can make this a future project!0 -
