NAT WEST - Steer Clear

I have got many bank accounts and Natwest's service is the worst out of all. When i opened the reward account, i was moved between branch team and internet team. As i opened the account on the internet but they didnt opened the account and asked me to take the ID to branch and upon going to branch they took the copies and still didnt opened the account, after being fed up, i reported it to their customer service and got a £30 compensation for the hassle and got my account opened too0

(a) Yes, I should have looked at Trust Pilot before, I went with NW because my Family members are with them
(b) Overdraft - I only wanted £100. A colleague has a Co-op Current account and he gets £500 OD with no fees
I have now received a letter from NW authorising an OD of £700, but there is no mention of fees. Where on earth did that get that figure from
Another thing to chase up.
(c) I should have changed my Halifax Savings Account to a Halifax Current Account, that would have been the easier option
I did this change because the Halifax branch is in the centre of Colchester whereas the NW branch is just down the road from me in Lexden - walking distance
As I said before Customer Service is atrocious, however much you complain it seems their attitude is " you have applied for an account and you will just have to wait for us to get round to dealing with it"
Read this comment I put on the NW Forum when I visited the Local NW branch to pay in my first cheque

They would create this figure based on a risk assessment of their relationship with you, income on the application, coupled with data from your CR.
The fees will be in their rates and charges brochure.I visited the Local NW branch to pay in my first cheque
You can pay cheques into a post office for a Halifax account but then hindsight is a wonderful thing.

1) Counter staff aren't *just* cashiers. I expect they'd actually be quite happy if that was their job description. Instead, they have to juggle all manner of tasks, some of which aren't customer facing but are still vital for the running of the branch. Servicing the ATMs is one such example. Admit it, if after depositing your cheque you decided to use the ATM and it was empty, you'd be complaining about *that* instead, wouldn't you?
2) Why on earth queue to deposit a cheque? I believe Natwest has pay-in envelopes, and newer branches have deposit machines. Standing in line to hand it over in person doesn't speed up the clearance time.: )0 -

I'm not wishing to have a dig as others on here may appear to be doing but you have stated the reason you went with them was because family members were with them. Did they not tell you how rubbish they were? Or have they found them to be about as rubbish as every other bank?
I honestly find banks to all be around about the same. I'm sure Trustpilot would have similar horror stories for all other banks. Having said that, Nat West is one of the banks I don't have an account with and I've recently closed (transferred) my Halifax reward account as they were absolutely shocking and not worth hassle for the £60 per year to me. Others, of course, will have had different experiences.0 -
I think grievances can happen with any bank. You sound like you've been very unlucky. It might be worth a complaint about the switch since its meant to be guaranteed at 7 days?0

I have been with Natwest for over 15 years and have always found them helpful and quick to resolve issues.0
