Sorry fella 36 hours ago he/she could have re-formatted the PVR drive using Gparted / Systemrescuecd. Done that with my old Sky HDD and also for Freeview HDD too. It is a case of a MBR which is not DOS / nor GPT . He/she needs to re-use , Msoft is crap for deciding what a HDD is, use standalone tools 34.5 hours ago finished by now. Keep pushing kodi which works better on none m$soft , open your horizons EF

Post #2 oh and plus you said post #3
no messing about with linux and boot CDs , you can work in an environment you understand (windows)
Sadly my my last post has no has relevance , except you have no idea what linux can do to help the OP's problems, I am not suggesting installing linux, solely suggesting an answer to the formatting problem. That must be my bad. Freddy once said linux is not his thing , perhaps I was[STRIKE] correct. [/STRIKE]wrong

I refer you to post 13

"PS: running via USB will perform slow , had you have placed the drive into your machine you would have been at maybe 4% now "

why did yo not try to mount it internally ? , you said you had about 4 sata drives connected , are they all needed to boot windows? , why did you not unplug one and plug this drive in its place?

I refer you also to one of my previous posts. The internals are all 5.25 drives, apart from the OS disc. This is a 2.5". I said

"That sounds like a plan, but I'll have to rummage in the odds and ends bin to see if I have a 5.25 - 2.5 adaptor..... later"

    No adaptors were available.

I suggested Mini partition tools as the owner stated that he/she was using a windows machine. maybe , maybe they have not the knolage to work in Linux

the OP then went on to state that they had 4 sata drives , perhaps one of those is Linux ?

if so and they have knowledge of Linux , why are they persisting to do this within windows?

perhaps we will never know , perhaps they will be needlessly scanning a drive for the next few weeks , which could have been reduced to hours by mounting the disk internally

    who knows?

    5.25 drives?

if you have sata drives either 3.5 or 2.5 the connector's are the same

I thought I said that all those drives were internal to the (Windoze) PC. There's an SSD with the OS, three HDDs and an optical drive.

None of which have Linux on them...

its going to be so funny after going thru this that the drive caddy was the reason for the disk being , or is that not being seen in windows

having sat their for a few days getting nowhere , why have you not resorted to trying the non windows alternate suggestion (post #2)

why not unplug a optical drive and plug the PVR drive in there

you only need a 3.5 to 2.5 adaptor to physically bolt it in , leave it hanging or stick it in a old cigarette/other type packet to stop it touching other metal

I still refer to post #2 I will talk you through gparted if necessary, but I am going on holiday soon, you appear to be 48+hours from where you started. If I am on holiay Gunjack/Spud/Esuhl will step in I hope.
The PVR drive is a not really a Disk in the sense of Windows/Linux but create a new MBR/Partition table and away you go.
Select the disk , create a new partiton table, then format as you wish.
