Cover for you - Avoid

I have had the worst experience with them.
I took out cover with them as they were the top rated for what I needed.
I couldn't make my trip so had to cancel. I got all the relevant information that the claim handling company needed and they handled it really well, paying out quickly.
My main problem is Cover for you who sold me the insurance with CSA. On their website they list the excess clearly as '£95' it is only in the terms that you see it is per person.
This was the crux of my complaint. I feel that I wasn't told it was per person and that they hid it. Why else would they list it in their summary the step before paying that it's £95 but only say per person pages into the terms?
So I complained to them. Their literature said the final step of their complaints process was with FOS and the final response from them also said if I wasn't happy with their response I could take it to FOS.
So naturally I went to FOS, after a short while they called me up confused. Turns out that Cover for you isn't regulated by the FCA so isn't subject to FOS, they're based in Gibraltar and so I can't take it any further unless I take them to court over there!
They said they were as confused as I was because the letter clearly said my next step is with FOS, but this isn't the case
So I guess I have to just chalk this up as a lesson and make sure the company I buy from is regulated by the FCA and a well known brand.

According to their website they are authorised to trade in the UK under the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) under the name HCC International Insurance Company PLC. I would suggest going back to FOS and double checking this with them as I know when I worked for them many many years ago mistakes like this would sometimes happen.

Nope, tried this. I spoke to someone really helpful as FOS who spoke to other people in the organisation to make sure she checked everything.
HCC isn't cover for you's trading name. They're the underwriter for CSA who's product cover for you sell.
According the FOS C4Y are completely out of their jurisdiction and only the toothless financial services commission can handle it.
Apparently it's not that uncommon for passported companies to list FOS on their final response letter.
People just need to make sure that if they buy from C4Y don't make a complaint against them because you'll just be wasting your time.0 -
Sorry to hear that I was hoping that would give you some back up how annoyingFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0

I had always assumed the excess was per person per claimIITYYHTBMAD0

If those figures were total and not per person, it would be extremely poor value insurance.
£100 for a missed departure or travel delays wouldn't go very far if it was the total being paid out for a group of 3 or 4 people.
I've never seen any travel insurance policies were the figures were not quoted per person so why would the excess amount be any different?0 -
Op, I tend to agree with others that the excess is per person, but have you thought about posting on the Insurance board?0

Why didn't you read the contract documents when you received them to ensure that they were in accordance with the terms you believed you had purchased? Had you discovered the discrepancy you could either have negotiated a change to the excess or cancelled and received a refund.0

Oh wow, what a great idea! I should have done the exact thing that would have helped me avoid this mess before I needed to claim.
I have never claimed on travel insurance before and to me saying £95 excess means in total, not per person.
My main reason for saying they are a bunch or liars and cheats is them saying complaints can be taken to FOS when in fact they can't. And there is seemingly nothing FOS can do to stop it (according to them).0 -

Why? I'm not here for advice on this matter just to moan about them being liars and cheats.0
