either its a motorway and the OP was in the wrong lane, or it was a slipway and the other cars were fine undertaking.
and btw its the former, the slipway starts about 30 seconds after the OP pulled out.
(OP, if you are reading these, they are not directed at you, you seem to have taken the advice, its more to continue the discussion with others on a more theoretical point.)
The other cars aren't using the slipway to exit the motorway which is its intended use. They are using it to overtake on the inside. You still say they are doing the right thing?0 -

So, yes, they were passing on the left - which isn't, in itself, explicitly illegal - while the OP was prematurely in the wrong lane.
There are strong arguments in favour of both driving without due consideration for other road users, but - imho - they are stronger against the OP. The other drivers did not directly cause any inconvenience to the OP. He did to them.0 -

It's all about you, isn't it?
There was nearly half an hour between me reading your post and replying to it, then going back to it to see what I'd missed after your comment and noticing that you'd edited it.
Well if you are going to accuse me of altering my response with nefarious intentions then at least back it up.
If you look at it, there are 2 times: 10:57 original posting time. edited 11:02. So my two minutes are really 5 minutes. The first two paragraphs were there at 10:57 before you posted at 11:00. You read the first paragraph but not the second.0 -

My point is that I don't know whether what I read first time - and just didn't reply to - is the same as what's there now. Nor, frankly, do I much care - because even if it was the same, it doesn't actually make any difference, since it doesn't affect my point in the slightest. Which is why I snipped it from the quoted text in my reply.
If you're going to accuse others of not reading something, it really doesn't help your credibility if it's clearly been edited after the reply you're objecting to.0 -
50mph in the overtaking lane of a motorway that is clearly flowing is unforgivable whatever the excuses.
Except this was approx 800m away from a split in the motorway, so OP is in the correct lane, and it kindof isn't an overtaking lane anymore. And there had just been traffic before it. OP is only guilty of not getting back up to speed quickly enough, and has accepted that. Looks like you didn't quite understand the whole thread before replying...OP... what right do you think you have to slow down drivers who want to do 70mph.
If someone comes up behind you move over and let them passed.
You didn't read the whole thread, did you?In this country we drive on the left unless overtaking and move into the correct lane at a roundabout in good time without impeding other road users which you clearly did.
Nor you.Half a mile away. Doing an indicated 50mph
So that's 42 seconds that they were in the 'outside' lane then.
For me, if there are signs telling you about the lane, you're fine to be there.
The real guilt is whoever allowed junctions like these on motorways - they should always slip off to the left.0
