I'm having a hard time figuring out if this is a wind up but...assuming its legitimate, why did he turn the power off? Did he say that there was something dangerous about your installation? Did he leave any paperwork?
Did you not think about getting a second opinion from another electrician? I very much doubt he was quoting £400 to turn the power back on, but quoting you to rectify whatever issue led him to turning it off in the first place.0 -

Sounds like you fixed it all yourself, give yourself a pat on the backNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

first of all he said not to use the plugs in the kitchen, then he went in the cupboard under the stairs, comes out and says hes got to turn the power off, ill have to ring his office but it will be about 400 pounds. Well i just rang his office and the woman who answered says they will need 70 pounds just to come and tell me what is wrong, NO THANK YOU. I told them I have fixed it myswelf and i will be reporting them, now i have like 6 missed calls SORRY GUYS YOU LOST THIS BUSNESS0

Just because something works does not mean it mets the required standard or is safe to use
You called someone in to view and quote , they did exactly that
He's advised you not to use sockets yet you seem to know betterHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
Get another electrician in.
This whole story is odd and you are missing important details.
He said the fuse wire was wrong, yet you replaced it. Are you 100% sure you used the correct ones in each circuit.
He said not to use the sockets, yet you are using them. Do you know what you are doing and understand the risks? From the style of your email I suspect not.
Get a second electrician in to diagnose the original problem and this time make sure you understand what he is telling you. Ask for it to be written down as a quote or in an email if you are not sure.0 -
Hmm! wonder if the fuses had blown and what fuse wire rating the OP has fitted if the circuits are now suddenly working.0

not sure why you say i am missing, details. house belonged to my grandad and we loived here together till he died four yearsa ago (IN 2011), he had lived here since the 60s i think
Never had any problems then since christmas just a few troubles, lights go on and off and there is a buzzing noise from some plugs when things are plugged in but still work fine. sometimes you have to jiggle the upstairs light till it comes on but it is one of those old switches like a little switch in a circle not a normal light switch, also one of the bedrooms has these. My mate came round who is a Plumber so he knows about DIY, he said there was a a weird smell off the plugs when he put the kettle on and he said i should get an electricin. BAD ADVICE. it is all working fine now so I think I will just leave it, had enuff trouble for one day LOL. thanks everyone for the advise tho0 -
OK I'm convinced this is a wind-up now.
But if it isn't, then it sounds like your wiring is ancient and you should get a competent electrician in to diagnose the original problem.
Just because its been fine up until now does not mean it will be fine forever.0 -
