I agree Sam4000 that reposting your list without your permission was incredibly rude! I've sometimes seen posts, sig lines or videos that made me wonder, but I would never consider even mentioning them in a recognisable way. Ugh! Some people have zero manners or thought for others' feelings.

The inventory idea is optional and, of course, the idea IS to be supportive and to help people make a success of cutting down as, all too often, good intentions go astray and increases happen where decreases were wanted. Quite a lot of YouTubers have made videos of this type and are finding them very helpful. The 'embarrassment and humiliation' of oneself is, of course, tongue in cheek, not serious. Anyway, there's always going to be someone with more..... :p

At the end of the day, one joins in whichever threads one wants and passes up on the rest. I'm not expecting huge participation and it mayn't even really get off the ground as some won't want to, some will, but won't want/remember/find the time to count and post etc etc, but there was interest shown, so I kept my word and created the thread. It's optional whether one joins in or not.

    :)
I can be a sensitive soul and still keep myself to myself most of the time. I don't think I will ever not have a stash, it changes with what is flavour of the month and I do love a bargain. I love sheet masks and own about 200 so I am now on a ban till I use some up.

    16) golden wonder bath bomb WBA

    17) honey bee bath bomb WNBA bought as part of a bundle of lush off eBay, this wax the one item that smells nice but does not do a lot for me.

    18) co- enzyme sheet mask WNBA prefer others but it did ha e a good fit and worked okay.

Those YouTubers do get odd comments. I have seen ones where the YouTuber has said "I am making this video because I realised I have 100 products in my hoard, I am so ashamed of my shopping habit and I am aiming to live a less consumerist life". And then the comments are full of people saying, "You have too many products! You are a shallow shopaholic!" Errr, yes, she actually already said that about herself, did you not listen to what she said...
Twisting the knife too, which is really unkind. :(

Quick Question - does anyone have the St Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower lotion? I have had this bottle for a while and dug it out yesterday and found the lotion is yellow and I don't remember it being that colour. I couldn't decide if it had gone off or not and didn't dare use it! Is it supposed to be yellow?

I completely understand what you mean. I probably will always have some kind of stash too, but with repeated house moves threatening, it does help to keep things restrained as bit. Besides, I hate having to store a load of stuff I'm not using or going to. :o

I could never be a one lipstick, one perfume girl. Bor-ing!

I liked the only sheet mask I ever used, but ones I've seen are expensive, so I'll come back to those later. Maybe. :D

Does anyone find when they're trying not to buy things in a certain category they just end up buying other things?

Yes! i have bought enough clothes, shoes and household. all addictions under control but the skincare has been a difficult addiction.

I used to list everything but was the ridicule of a member of this MSE who posted my list on their blog. We all have vices mine is skincare and toiletries.
How horrible to experience that. I hope that nobody makes you feel that way again. The reason, I participate in this forum is to encourage me to use up what I have and be enlightened on what products worked, failed and are treasured by other cosmetic addicts.
I know I will never cure the addiction, coming from a long line of cosmetic addicts. However, if I spurge let it be for something of value and potential benefit.
Which of us are to judge what we spend money on (as long as bills are paid and obligations are meet). Do we judge the bloke who is a football season ticket holder or someone who attends races or a lady who buys a lovely outfit for a wedding?

I spend a lot on make-up sometimes, other times I spend very little as I buy in sales but it gives me joy. I guess I spent years where shoes, hats and make up were the only things I could buy without feeling miserable about myself- even though I dropped weight and kept it steady- I still prefer to buy cosmetics.

Used up- face mask – exfoliating mask. It was horrible- it dried out my forehead.
    Give away- 5 items
Give to me – one item
    t/a -one item
I bought a primark version of a beauty blender and expert brush my real techniques. The beauty blender thingy was alright for foundation but was awful for blusher.

I don't think I'll totally cure my addiction either. In a lot of ways toiletries and cosmetics bring me joy. As I mentioned previously on here, I had mild depression as a teenager and I never really took care myself as much as I could have done. I got the wrong boyfriends who made it worse for me. Then as I was getting better, a student counselor talked to me about how performing daily rituals for self-care is part of good mental health. I never really considered that until he said it and I started taking more care and making myself feel beautiful. This was just one little thing on my path towards finding my self-worth but it genuinely did help. I still find that beauty regimes are a good pick-me-up for me. The weather over winter brought down my general mood again and I think this led to an increased toiletry horde.

The main thing for me now is making space in my bathroom but I wouldn't mind having a few spare products here and there. I'm really looking to have a calmer looking bathroom where I know where everything is and hopefully it will all fit into one unit. I don't want to feel like I'm living in a jumble sale.

    I have another UU.

    UU
Oral-B 3D White Enamel Protect 75ml - I had no problems with this but I prefer Colgate whitening products in general. I have a couple more Colgate toothpastes in the stash and a few toothpaste tubes with little bits left to squeeze. I hope to finish off the almost-finished tubes this month.

    Updates

One of my foot creams has only a couple of squeezes of product left in it, the body scrub, body oil and 2 hand creams are nearing finished. I've put out several mini body lotions and a mini hair conditioner. I'll also target the perfume samples when getting ready for work this week.

Hi, Emma uses this and I squirted a bit out for research purposes for you this morning. It is yellow coloured and when applied to the back of my hand gave a lovely golden sheen. Hers will not have gone off as she uses it regularly so it sounds like yours is safe.

2 UUs on my PP list:-

Elemis PCMC 15ml tube. Have one more in stash and then I will be opening huge 100ml tub.

OPI Avojuice lotion - Lavender - WDNBA as it was too runny.
Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

I agree! As long we don't waste needed funds, we can spend on what we like. Everyone has differing 'levels' of what they feel comfy with and I've really taken the minimalist mindset on board over the last couple of years, but as long as we can afford it, why not have/do what we want with our cash? I'd personally prefer to travel and learn new things with my cash than buy lots of physical stuff, but each to his or her own. :)

Lucia: Your story is lovely and very balanced. :)

    Morning all
A UU of an aldi soap bar and a purchase of a lush soap bar so I broke even.

Re commenting on other peoples stashes or posts I think some people can be very judgemental. I remember when I first joined this thread a number of years back and posted my list, a few comments were along the lines of God where do you store all that stuff and aren't you embarrassed to have people round to visit. That was a few years ago now but at the time it stung, a lot of my stuff came from wins or carboot sale bargains I don't really tend to buy much at full price it has just built up over time. I think my goal of reaching below 250 items has been around for a few years but this is the year I WILL reach it.
Currently I'm embracing the kondo thread and starting to feel I just don't need bogging down with stuff so it seems to be shifting a little easier.

Good luck to everyone with their various stashes, we have all acquired them for different reasons and they in some ways do bring us joy, so who is anyone to judge what we should or shouldn't have except ourselves.
