I got my mayoral ad leaflet through last weekend, and depressing reading it was too. It was interesting to read how few actual concrete policies are stated by candidates amongst the vague "make everything more nicer" guff. Obviously they all promise more affordable housing and bobbies on the beat.

Exactly this. "We will build X more houses". How? What policies will you use to achieve this? I want to see a concrete plan as a means to achieve your goal that I can assess as viable or not so I know if you're just another con artist or not.

But of course, they are all con artists so we will never see a concrete plan. It is the usual BS politics that passes for democracy.

The rental market could well fail under Khan as he and the Corbynites see LL's as enemy number one.

In effect his rules and regs will simply cause less rental property to be available (and no this wont be sufficient to lead to property price falls, and in any event mortgage rules mean a big proportion cant buy anyway)

The odds are already well stacked in favour of tenants, that can not pay rent, wreck a property and know full well it can take months to get an eviction.

Some tenants cause condensation and yet then demand LL's remedy it. Corbynites always fall for the slumlord being the cause of such things when it's actually the fault of tenants.

I don't know, how long has it been in place?

The London experience will depend on how far Khan pushes things. I've heard prominent Corbynistas talking of a war on LL's and as is so often the case, this regulation could back fire. A bit like mortgage tightening in 2008 leading to millions being unable to buy a place of their own

Looks like Goldsmith is even behind in SW London, his home turf.

Lib Dem's targeted that area, easy pickings after the bnp style campaign from the Tories. Some of Goldsmith campaign was indistinguishable from Britain First's - hopefully between him BF and the BNP it has split the knuckledragger vote

I recall a BBC piece on a crap renta and the twnanta werw showing the reportwr around telling her their sob stories. the reporter when walking into the kitchen was like....oh myy god it looks like the oven hasn't been cleaned in a year...like that is the landlords responsibility. But of course it was protrayes as the landlords fault.

Sorry, but no. Zac is my MP and a very good one at that – this is why he was re-elected with a huge majority. He is a decent man and no racist, and is his own man and consistent in his policies. He may have been wrongly advised by the company organising his campaign – and the fact is that Khan does have a record for frankly racist actions and remarks, which needed to be spelled out. What his job will bring, time will tell, but I am glad his power is limited.

Zac would have made a very good London major, but I'm pleased he will stay as my MP.

Thankfully a majority of Londoners don't agree with your blinkered assessment and Khan has just been confirmed as the new Mayor.

Jolly good – I wish you luck with him and let's see how this pans out for London. I'll stick with Zac in my constituency, thanks.

Incidentally, to call someone you don't know 'blinkered' just because you don't agree with them is rather blinkered in itself.

Let's see what happens – and whether the nirvana promised by Khan materialises… :T
