Contactless fraud

It frustrates me when I am given a receipt without being asked if I want one. The whole point in using contactless is to save time!
On the other hand I've accidentally paid for someone else's fast food before so perhaps I'm not responsible enough to have a contactless card0 -
Try using a self-service check-out; in my experience the self-service check-outs at WH Smiths always issue receipts when paying by contactless card.
Apart from the ones near the South Galleries lounge in Heathrow T5 if you press they "I want a receipt button" it always freezes the machine (Or manned till if you do it there) if you paid contactless. :rotfl:0 -

Tbf I believe this is rapidly changing. I worked for a supermarket chain until around Christmas and for the last year or so I was there we could give cashback with contactless, but obviously not if it made the whole amount go above maximum allowed for a contactless payment, which is £30. I'm sure not everywhere offers the service, but if one medium-large retailer does, I'd think other larger chains either do or will get in on it.
As for people asking about cashback scams, it can happen, however it does rely on the customer both not looking at the amount on the card reader and also ignoring the receipt. Though for the latter you'd be surprised how many people wave away their receipt telling you to bin it, even for very large purchases. Unfortunately as well for the more vulnerable, one angle to get around the amount being on the card reader is for the sales assistant to claim they have accidentally put cash back on or double scanned an item and that although the reader says X they shouldn't worry as they'll only be charged Y since they've cancelled it. Some people won't think clearly and trust what they're being told is correct. Obviously I don't want to be a fear monger or demonize retail workers since I was one for some time, but you do get the odd bad apple.0 -

My local branch is only a small one, used to be a sussex stationary, there isn't a self service option, come to think of it, its not in the larger branch where I work either...
I have only ever seen them at the airport or large train stations where there is a large footfall.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards.
