As a "Wrinkly" I love the contactless cards.

Makes life a lot easier for me.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

WOW, lots of hate going on there.

Dunno how you got a lot of hate out of that 1 sentence. I was merely giving my experiences of some places that don't give a receipt and when I politely ask for it they seem to huff as though I have asked them to carry out a long and complicated process, when all it is is clicking an extra button to print out a customer receipt lol

EDIT: I just seen I used the word hate a lot, point taken! lol!

Similar happened to me in Jimmy Spices, so some staff training is definitely needed as I don't think it is acceptable to complete a transaction without allowing the cardholder to check the amount (whether that amount is correct or incorrect.) In future when handing my card over I will specifically state that I want to pay by chip and pin.

I went online on my phone and logged into my online account before leaving to check the amount taken, so fortunately I was not overcharged. I complained but they never emailed back as they said they would. Of course if someone is out of coverage then it doesn't help, as there and then is the only way to prove anything. I would otherwise demand a card receipt, and refuse to leave until you get it (they can get more "paper" if they need.) You could then check the receipt against the last 4 card digits to ensure that you aren't being given a different receipt to make the amount taken look correct.

Jimmy Spices hadn't tried overcharging me, but they still didn't give a receipt as standard or offer one. They then started telling my friend that she should get a new card because she didn't have contactless, and checked the date themselves to tell her that the card was 2 years old!

Contactless is optional at both First Direct and Nationwide.
You have to request it, but they are both capable of issuing cards without the contactless ability.

You can ask your bank for a non contactless card if you prefer.

You can also opt out to read the Daily Mail and Express.

Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

Would it actually be possible for a shop assistant to overcharge on a contactless payment and somehow get their hands on that money with very little or no risk of discovery?
    Evolution, not revolution

I would imagine so, if the person swiping doesn't see the screen. You spend £5 in a shop, the shop assistant also puts thru £10 cashback, you swipe without looking at a total of £15 and leave; the shop assistant pockets the £10.

You can't normally use contactless for cashback.

Given that 1 in every (approximately) 10 to 20 transactions a contactless user is asked to key in their PIN, the fraudster wouldn't get through many before they found them, selves having to explain why the amount was wrong.
