Buying Nokia 6300 - very confused
Comments
-
Hi, I am a newbie here and am amazed by all the tips and knowledge shared so freely. I hope that some of you experts can help me with choosing a new phone as I am very confused by all the terminology.
I have had for some time a PAYG Nokia 1100 ---
I have the same old phone and am ugrading to the 6300. Does anybody know how to get the old texts off the 1100 and put them onto the 6300. I thought that they were on the sim, but they appear to be in a memory on the 1100 which I cannot get at.
Thanks for anyones help

I don't believe its possible to get the old texts off the old phones.
I would be happy to hear different, as i've old texts on my old phones that I would like to keep, and then finally scrap the phones.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
            Hi Guys
Sorry to have started this and then diappeared but I've been flat out. To clear up any confusion, thesaint, you are right in that I do want to but a 6300 now and then change to Virgin later. I have done the rounds of the High Street and the bset I can do is The Link and Curry's at £79.99 but this is with T-Mobile. I forgot to ask about price-matching at CPW :embarasse.
Richard, does the fact that your 6300 was not locked to T-Mobile mean that it would work with my Orange sim with no further cost?
Sorry, Chris, can't help with the texts. I can only just about manage to send one as it is!!!!!0 -
Having a good search through this forum and found a link to http://www.mobiles2yourdoor.co.uk/contract_offer_details.asp?ItemKey=161072&MPItemKey=172087 Now I really am confused. I don't understand what it means by saying it's free when you're paying £40 per month. I'm obviously missing something!!!!!!!!!!!0

I thought that you wanted it now, disregard information about porting your number to Virgin.
1st thing to do is research CPW's pricematching service. If this is possible, get them to supply the phone for £79.99
Richard is confirming that the phone is unlocked. You can ask CPW for confirmation of this before purchase.Having a good search through this forum and found a link to http://www.mobiles2yourdoor.co.uk/contract_offer_details.asp?ItemKey=161072&MPItemKey=172087 Now I really am confused. It's a cashback deal, it's not something that I would recommend for you at this time.
Study the threads for cashback companies CLICK HERE
Give it a few months at least, they're usually better deals around at christmas, you should then have sufficient knowledge to stand a chance of receiving your money back.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
Thanks, I agree that the cashback route is not for me as I'm hopeless at remembering dates. Will checkout CPW's pricematching and see what they say.0

An extra question before I go to CPW this weekend. I can get the 6300 from CPW for £79.95 with T-Mobile. I thought I had seen on here that all CPW phones are unlocked so is there anything to stop me buying it in T-Mobile from CPW and putting my Orange sim card in? If so, why do CPW sell at different tariffs for different networks? Thanks.0
 -
The networks will subsidise the handsets, some more than others, thats why I believe they vary network to network in price. Check with the CPW that the tmobile phone is unlocked, and ask to try your sim in it. The only downside is that they will make you buy a £10 topup for the sim you are buying with phone.0

The only problem I have with the 6300 is that I can't get the back cover off as it's so stiff.0

Just thought I'd updayte this thread in case it helps anyone else. I went to CPW and bought the 6300 as it did work with my Sim. It was £79.99 but I had to buy £20 airtime which was a pain as I don't intend to use that Sim card much. I still think it's good value though as the phone's great.
I'm not supposed to know about it yet so that I can be "surprised" when the boys give it to me on my birthday so I'm sitting wading through the manual in the evenings when they are in bed.
Also, on the network issue, I happened to have a friend here yesterday who said her phone was through Virgin and she got a full signal where I get 1 or 2 bars with Orange and with the new T-Mobile. So I'm going to check the price of calls etc. but I think I'll change back to Virgin now. I don't know if it will work in my new house when I move but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
So a good result all round. Thanks for your help - much appreciated.
Kind Regards
