People are saying that it will be hard to rehome the dog as there are so many unwanted dogs already - it isn't an easy solution or a quick fix to the problem unless she's planning to just drop it off at the refuge.:(Three large crates..
To be fair we don't know what sort of property they live in, but it would have to be a huge place to house 5 huskies comfortably! These dogs are around 3 foot tall and weigh 20 kilos. They are also athletic and energetic, and can be very destructive when bored, left alone too much, or not exercised.

So it's 3 crates? That's even worse!
I have altered my post to correct it to 3 crates.
No argument on earth, or insistence that the property is huge, can justify keeping five big energetic working dogs in 3 crates. (In what is probably a small house with a small garden.)You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Yes, I am having trouble thinking of what someone could need a team of huskies for, in our climate :rotfl:
But seriously, I think there might be a danger of the dogs getting neurotic and aggressive if they are kept in crates, as the post implies. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I see agreeing to a pet you have a responsibility, no different than not wanting a baby but you end up being a parent, you still have a responsibility, you can't just hand the baby back.0

Out if interest, why is everyone assuming the OP is a woman who has been lumbered with all the looking after and cleaning? Because the OP doesn't actually say any of that. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

dh usually means 'dear husband'.0 -

Speaking of babies, one reason a dog may need to be re-homed would be if it bites one of the children. Children's body language can be quite threatening to dogs. The child's safety should obviously come first before the 'rights' of the dog to stay in the home.
No indication that this is happening in the OP's (probably invented) scenario, but just thinking of instances where a dog may need to be removed from the family home. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
It's very hard to keep saying no when you are the only one who isn't on board.
The only reasons cited by OP is the hair and smell and that it seems that this is preventing her going ahead with her redecorating/refurbishing plans. To me, that means that her issue is that she resents the dog for preventing her going ahead with her current dream plan. I personally believe that you can keep a house nice with a dog, even a big one, it just requires more care so she would be talking with her family, write out a diary of who does what and when, maybe with some reward for the kids depending on age. That would involve daily combing of hair and giving it a bath once a week. She doesn't have to like it or give it affection if everyone else.0 -
My OH would love a dog, and I love dogs too, I just don't want to be tied down to either holidaying in this country or using kennels. I know if we got one if would be like going back to having a young child and as we have just regained the freedom to travel I am loathe to give that up.0
