How much to spend on a spare bed?
Comments

It obviously depends on how often you have guests and how long they stay.....but if it's an occasional visitor i'd buy a cheap bed. Even if it's incredibly uncomfortable, they're not staying for long. To be honest, cheap doesn't always equal uncomfortable-Ness! We paid 700 on a mattress (which is expensive for me) and its so uncomfortable0

We got an Ikea sofa bed - means we can use the spare room as an office or a quiet "get away from the kids and browse MSE" space, but the sofa extends out to just-about King size as a bed and is (I've been told by my in-laws) very comfortable. It's even got space underneath the seats to keep a king size duvet, sheet and four pillows which means it's always ready to go.
Think it cost about £400 incl. delivery.0 -
EBay. .... 99p and it's immaculate. ... used only once or twice as a guest bed...
That included the bed frame and hardly used mattress. ... I wiped it all with a dilute solution of bleach and then aired it... perfect for my needs.0 -
Studybed.
What a great idea, it's a desk and when the bed folds down all the stuff can be left undisturbed on the desk0 -

The press have been going on about how we naturally sleep badly in strange beds (at first). Unless you plan to have long-term guests (in which case take DRP's advice), get something that's cheap and versatile such as a sofa-bed.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I go for the same quality in all rooms .Then when my bed is one I move to the spare and buy a matress to replace the dumped one ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0

Nothing. We got a new king size for our room when we moved house and moved the old double into our spare room. It has guests maybe 10 nights a year.0

This one claims to be 68% off!: http://beds.co.uk/divan-beds/francis-divan-bed-with-3000-pocket-pillow-top-spring-mattress.html0

68% seems a bit too good to be true.0
