How much to spend on a spare bed?

Options
I live alone in a three bedroom house. I have one bed i.e. the other two rooms are empty.

I would like to buy a bed for another room for when I have a guest. I was thinking about buying this bed: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3393934.htm

I have seen much cheaper beds for sale. You get what you pay for I guess.
I can afford the bed posted. However, if I only spent £150, then I could overpay the mortgage by the difference.

I would be interested to hear from other people who live alone. How much did you spend on a "spare" bed?

I think you should spend between £274.58 and £283.64. That includes delivery, obviously. I've based this on the formula

f = n * s * x

Where f=funds for spare bedroom
n= number of bedrooms
s = sparrows in my garden at the moment
x = the weight of dry cat food I fed my cat this morning

I've rounded to the nearest penny.

The cat didn't eat everything, and I wasn't sure if I was supposed to deduct this from x, which is why we have the range.

I am not asking how much you think I should spend on a bed. I am asking how much you spent on a bed.

Is that grams or ounces?

If you haven't got a cat, does the same apply if you have a dog?

I wouldnt buy from Argos to be honest, Go to a proper bed shop

My other suggestion is to buy one of those single beds with another single bed underneath that pulls out

This can be or 2 friends as t singles or pushed together to make a king size for a couple

We did this and its brilliant and there is plenty of room when there are no visitors becuase there is only in effect a single bed
You can get these for around £300 and a good haggle or free delivery.

Cut your cloth accordingly. You might find people reluctant to stay if you go too cheap.

Grams obviously, now we've gone decimal. Perhaps use a blue tit instead of a sparrow to counter the higher weight of food.

Mine's a double, I think I spent £165 on it, including mattress. It's one of those ottoman storage ones. I put it together myself, even though I'm exceedingly useless.

To clarify, that's "my bed", not a spare one.

Bonus!

I'd not care if somebody offered me a large dog basket to sleep in, so long as it were clean.
• Bed frame was £20 from second hand furniture shop.
Mattress was £100 from Argos on sale.
Bed covers from Asda.
Had people stay between 1 night and 3 months (separate occasions).
No complaints :). In fact people always say they love the bed which makes me wonder what they normally sleep on ;)
£15900 loan (including interest) over 3.5 years to pay off...can I do it sooner???

Who are you likely to have to stay?

Twenty-year-old bloke in perfect health who is going to crash at yours after a night out getting hammered - cheap as you like, they won't notice or care.

Ninety-year-old frail granny who will want to stay for a week in comfort - buy the best you can.

Only you know how comfortable your guests might want to be, or how comfortable you want to make them.

For the record, when I had a spare bed it was an Argos sofa bed because my guests were usually in the first category above, and I was ok sleeping on it for a night myself if my parents came to stay so they could have my bed.

Buy a second hand one from your local facebook selling group. £50.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
