Sounds too good to be true. It is.

Don't be surprised to suddenly find the software is deactivated and won't work :D

May ebay should investigate this seller. It seems dodgy to me.

It 'features' an activation script attempting to call various KMS servers, including in China, Cocos, and Iran!

By the way, if you ever want to check, send the link to legal@ and piracy@ Microsoft.co.uk and see if the seller is still active on eBay a couple of days later.

But a hint, a year of basic Office365 is 4x the price, so these are clearly a licence breach of one or another kind. Some people don't mind violating licences and will copy CD's, rip DVD's, torrent ebooks, etc., in the (mistaken) belief that it hurts nobody. Whilst many rights holders do themselves no favours through massive exaggeration, out does ultimately hit the artists and creators hard.

No. Antivirus programmes are reactive and around 50% effective. Far better not to open the door to nasties in the first place.

A five year old article the best you have?

BG, you're somewhat technically savvy, so is this really a question from you? The situation hasn't improved in that time, and anyway, want to know how well protected you are?

.Over the course of 365 days, no single antivirus scanner had a perfect day - a day in which it caught every new malware sample

Yep, no AV product is full protection, they're there to catch what they can, but none catch everything. Knowing there's a genuine risk of catching something very nasty may affect your online behaviour or may not.

Some people are attracted to risky behaviours. If the same percentage risks existed for condoms, there would be a lot more STD's - would we still be encouraging risky behaviours?

If you've good (newer?) citations for 'install pirated software, it's a safe activity', please do post!

ordered one, will run in a sandbox for a month to see if any malware activity.

It is almost certainly not a legit license, only a VLK would avoid the need to enter at setup and that would have a huge cost.
  • Hi
I've just bought one of these:
    ebay.co.uk/itm/172444187674

It seems to be working fine, and the key worked. I downloaded Office 16 from the MS website.

How can I tell if this is genuine and legitimate?

    Thanks

The license are genuine, come with one time activation and last a lifetime. Only catch is that the keys are obtained from from a MSDN or Bizspark account. I used to sell keys back in 2009 (I think) and use to make a comfortable income of £2k per month until eBay introduced a ban on digital item sale.
